"I wouldn’t say the room was the cleanest, I dropped something from my case which went under the bed and oooh that hadn’t been done for a while !
I was given an access room at street level, but it was noisy, both from above and outside.
My 2nd night required earplugs to be worn to get to sleep. "
"The staff were great, but the room was disappointing, the pictures made it look bigger and luxurious. Our room was above the bar so the music was loud and we had either thin pillows or lumpy pillows, so my neck ached in the morning "
"The pictures online are nothing like the hotel when you get there the hotel needs a makeover. It says that it has two restaurants but in fact, the breakfast is only open till 10:30 in the morning and the brasserie was only open 2 times and I stayed a full week. It atates that it has a gym which it does not and hasn’t been working for years. The rooms are very dingy stuff caked and stuck on the walls.
The carpet, the wood flooring, the tile all is just very old and not well kept. One of the lightbulbs in my room was out which seems like the maid Service should catch.
When people asked where I was staying the Uber drivers and or Restaurant folks they all were like oh how is the Hotel because I hear it is not very good and is very run down.
I was lucky. I did have a small refrigerator in my room, which worked well for the week. The air-conditioning wouldn’t go lower than 26 Celsius, I was hot every night.
I did choose the hotel partially because of the location but partially because the pictures did look like it was going to be a decent looking hotel. I typically stay at The Grand, but it wasn’t available for two of my nights. If I went back, I would not stay in that hotel again.
"
"Our rooms had a lovely ( unexpected) sea view but as I found out on arrival, most if not all rooms, (other than accessibility/disability rooms) have a shower over the bath, so it wasn’t ideal for my 84yr old mother who doesn’t require an accessible room as she doesn’t have any disabilities or restrictions per se but can’t climb into the bath to take a shower.
It is very unusual for a hotel these days to have baths in every room but the hotel was fully booked for a conference so unfortunately there was no option to change rooms to an accessible room for her.
The restaurant was closed for a function the night we arrived, This was a Monday night in a small seaside town at the beginning of March so I wasn’t hopeful - but we found 3 great places to eat within a few mins walk. A really lovely seaside cafe/restaurant, an Indian and an American/Mexican type restaurant.
The hotel was clean, staff were lovely and it was ideal for our stay. Don’t be put off by the 1970’s exterior.
We didn’t go further than the seafront so not sure about a ‘town’ but there are retail parks nearby. "
