"Disappointing Welcome Experience and Bathroom Cleanliness Our stay could have been much better, especially when it comes to customer service and cleanliness. The staff on the ground floor, including security and other personnel, lacked a welcoming attitude. There were no greetings or offers of assistance upon our arrival. The security guard did not even offer to help with our luggage or simply open the door so we could roll our bags inside. When approached, he responded, "I'm just a security guard. I don't do those things." While I understand that carrying luggage may not be part of his responsibilities, basic courtesy and hospitality should still be expected. If security personnel are not responsible for assisting guests, the hotel should have designated staff available to welcome guests and offer assistance. On a positive note, the concierge staff were very nice, friendly, and accommodating. Another concern was the bathroom cleanliness. The shower area clearly needed deep cleaning. There were numerous black spots along the edges of the shower, which appeared to be mold, as well as a significant amount of hair around the drain. This was disappointing and not the level of cleanliness we expected from a hotel. Overall, the hotel needs to improve its guest welcoming experience, staff hospitality, and housekeeping standards. A simple greeting, a little assistance, and a properly cleaned bathroom can make a big difference in a guest's overall experience."

"We stayed at Catalonia Portal de l’Angel from August 14–16 before heading out on a cruise, and it was a wonderful start to our trip. Even though the hotel is located on a pedestrian‑only street, our taxi from the airport was able to drive right up to the front door, which made arrival incredibly easy. We landed early (around 8 AM), fully expecting that our room wouldn’t be ready. The staff were friendly and welcoming, offering us access to a bathroom so we could freshen up and change, and then stored our bags while we explored the city. When we returned around 1 PM to cool off in the lobby (it was about 34°C), we were pleasantly surprised — after just a few minutes of sitting, we were told our room was ready and escorted upstairs. I had originally booked a Double Room with Balcony, but at check‑in we were offered an upgrade to a Premium Double Room with Terrace, which was fantastic. The private rooftop terrace with chairs and a table became one of our favourite parts of the stay — perfect for enjoying wine and tapas after a day of exploring. The staff were consistently friendly and helpful, and the location couldn’t be better. It’s close to hop‑on/hop‑off stops, major sites, and easy walking routes throughout the city. Overall, we had a great stay and would recommend to others."

"El personal en recepción fue muy amable al atendernos. Las indicaciones para llegar al cuarto fueron las apropiadas, así como para recibir alimentos. El cuarto estaba limpio pero el baño necesitaba un poco más de atención. No había shampoo para el cabello, únicamente jabón. En general, el lugar está bien."
