From start to finish the staff made our trip perfect. Incredibly friendly, attentive, always looking to do something a little extra to make your stay unforgettable.
Incredible food and accommodation (with hot running water and full comfort!) in a romantic setting surrounded by nature, private safaris in stunning Yala National Park led by guides who are passionate about the animals in the park - we saw countless birds, water buffalo, lizards, a wild boar family, even a sloth bear!
A Very special experience
We stayed at the Mahoora Camp in Yala and we couldn't have had a better experience!
From the first moment until the last, the entire staff went out of their way to create the best and unforgettable experience for us - with great success!. I would like to thankfully mention that all the staff was very friendly & helpful. The tent is beautifully located close to the park, completely blending in with the forest. A truly memorable experience.
Luxurious safari tent experience in a cozy, personalized camping sort of way.
Outstanding personal service, very clean and safe/bug-free tents which is sealed, comfy and very clean with all the expected turn down style service you would expect from an actual hotel - which we appreciated especially much, cozy candlelight dinner outside by the fireplace, great safari - saw many different animals including leopard (3 times on 3 drives, elephants, buffaloes, crocs and a bear) Our naturalist was another level, we learnt so much about the Leopard , wildlife and culture a really top guy who made the experience magic.
Overall as camping goes these guys provide a great experience
It’s not cheap and feel the bathroom in the tent could be better especially seeing the floor of the shower needed replacement
The food and beverage manager is as fantastic - food was great and the under the stars dinner was great but too much and the drives were great especially our driver Saresh
Overall if you like camping you will like this

nice tent experience but terrible service
I booked mahoora with half day safari for the only reason to have a safari experience. We travelled a long ( and out of the way) to get to Yala and for the price, in the end it wasn't worth it.
We found out a few days before, through local sri lankans, that yala park was actually closed and there was very little chance to see any animals. To explain it clearly, the camp is next to site 1 ( the main site for leopards and other highlights of yala park). However all sites were closed except site 5, which is technically not part of Yala park and it takes 45 mins extra to drive there. The reasons for this was unclear whether it was draught or maintainance, but from a management perspective, it was very clear that they knew in advance. The safari team did not notify us, and in fact lied to us. ( they told us only 1 part is closed..) there isnt much else around the camp other than the safari. so no safari no point to book mahoora
We tried to contact the hotel directly, which was a nightmare and we spent a lot of international calls, as they would keep asking us to speak to another number and in the end was totally redundant. However, the campsite was very nice, cosy and clean. Staff were attentive and professional- they made the experience better. ( But you could see the service was different between us and the other guest staying) Tip: Check the seasons your going yourself and try to get updates on the safari as soon as you can.
This is a great safari to go on. Our guide was really knowledgeable about the wildlife. The food and service was first class, as was the atmosphere around the camping area.
The only complaints were the lack of hot water in the shower and the non existent wifi.
