We loved this hotel, we have stayed in hundreds of hotels all over the world but this one is our favorite. The room was warm, they provided an array of teas and instant cappuccinos. The breakfast was A++++ offering a huge selection of warm and cold breakfast choices, great coffee, and a very welcoming ambiance. We also accidentally left a shirt and a blender cup in the room and the staff saved both items for us and had them ready to return to us as soon as we returned and asked for them. We called ahead because it would be a later check-in and they left the keys for us and made it so convenient. For $125 you just can't beat this place. It will be my 1st choice accommodation for any future trips into the area going forward.

We slept with the windows open and had a beautiful view from our window and a soft bed. The staff was very friendly and responsive to any needs we had. The breakfast was very nice.

Idar Oberstein is a gem of a city and this hotel is perfect for a great German experience. Highly recommend right under the church on the mountain.

The Schloßschenke is a beautiful hotel conveniently in the heart of Idar-Oberstein. There are plenty of shops and restaurants all in within easy walking distance and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel restaurant was undergoing renovation but a very nice continental breakfast was included and served in the smaller dining area. Parking is a little bit of an issue as in most cities but the hotel had free parking at a reserved parking area only 300 meters from the hotel. I would stay here again in a heartbeat on my next visit to Idar-Oberstein.

We were excited to stay in downtown Idar Oberstein since previously we had stayed a bit out of town. Sadly, the experience was lacking and bordered on depressing. I want to be quick to say that some of this is not the property's fault. Idar Oberstein is struggling like many small German cities within maintaining a vibrant downtown. That has had an impact on the property. In fact, the restaurant that used to be part of the hotel is no longer open which combines to limit dining choices for guests. The lack of life in the downtown has contributed to what felt like a property that was struggling to maintain itself. Few amenities were in the room in terms of soap and shampoo. The room was clean but there was hair in the bathroom. Front desk staffing was limited. The room itself was serviceable but furnishings were dated and one window shade was broken. Finally, there is no elevator in this property which makes it very difficult if you have lots of luggage as we did. It pains me to write this as I know that the property is dealing with some things beyond their control but I need to be honest.

My cleaner, Kathe (sp?), was both lovely and thorough in cleaning. Samira, the breakfast cook, bent over backwards to get me a delicious breakfast. The building is older and in need of some updating, but still charming and located right in the middle of the old city, just across from the German National Mineral Museum. The desk area had no light. I was finally given a small lamp that didn't work that well. While the building has an elevator, you have to get your luggage up one flight to get to the elevator. A restaurant is right below in the same building.

Toller Mix aus alt & neu / modern. Mein Zimmer war renoviert, geräumig und alles hat problemlos funktioniert. Frühstück war mehr als ausreichend. Das Personal war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Ich komme gerne wieder!

Zentral gelegen und ruhig

Das Hotel ist zentral gelegen, leider aus Personalmangel ist das Restaurant geschlossen, obwohl die Speisekarten noch draußen hängen was und nicht bekannt war. Personal war sehr freundlich, Frühstück vielfältig Zimmer nett eingerichtet und groß.
