Hotel Gaivota Azores

"My family and I stayed at Hotel Gaivota overnight on our way back to the US from Mainland Portugal. Everything about the stay made us want to come to Sao Miguel again and book Hotel Gaivota for the full stay. Check in was clear and concise and efficient despite having been booked thru a 3rd party (in this case Expedia). The accommodations were clean, stylish, well appointed and an overall good value for the price. The entire hotel was fantastically maintained and the staff were kind, professional and helpful. The hotel is in a great location, close to the airport and central to all parts of the island. It’s close to restaurants, bars and attractions. As stated above, on returning to Sao Miguel I would most certainly try to book Hotel Gaivota for the stay."

"Property was very clean and beautiful. Staff was friendly, but not very helpful. I needed toilet paper for my room and they said they couldn’t give me any. They ended up sending a housekeeper up with some but it’s just the point that it was like pulling teeth to get some. Breakfast was very good, with a wide variety of options. Hotel bar needs a better payment system, lots of family member’s meals and drinks ended up on our tab. At one point our tab was on some random person’s room number which we made sure to fix. Overall, our stay was pleasant, with some minor flaws."

"The apartment was really nice, clean, modern and spacious for 4 of us. The air con was good and kept us cool and we got great WiFi signal. We had a 1 bedroom apartment with reduced mobility, our room did not have a balcony which we definitely missed. But you can probably be specific on your booking if you want one. The pool provided beautiful views and wasn't cold. The larger pool is about a 5 minute walk from the hotel and pretty bare, there are loungers but no options for shade. It looks as though some work may be due to take place around there. We did not have breakfast at the onsite restaurant, we did enjoy a lunch and an evening meal there. The food was delicious but a little pricey, so probably not ideal to eat there every day. We managed to cook two pasta meals in the apartment using the small hob. There is no oven but there was a microwave and a dishwasher which was useful. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely recommend it."
