"The Frances Modern is a self-service boutique hotel perfectly located in hip East Austin — a vibrant neighborhood with great boutiques and dining options. The property is very charming, with cozy, bohemian décor and thoughtful room amenities that make for a relaxed, comfortable stay. There’s excellent coffee and sparkling water available in the communal area, which adds a nice touch. On the first floor, there’s a terrific East Asian restaurant, and just steps away is Paperboy — an excellent spot for breakfast. I recommend making reservations for both. Communication was outstanding — any time I had a question, I received an immediate and helpful response. I would definitely stay here again. "

"Needed an inexpensive no frills roof over my head for one night. Was provided exactly what I needed, with the convenience of being downtown Austin. Happily, I traveled on a Sunday with free on street parking. Only thing missing from my room was a mug for morning caffeine. Glass cups were provided, as was an electric kettle. Room was not thoroughly cleaned. Seemed built in haste, so intentionally and unintentionally unfinished in spots. Gave me an upscale youth hostel feel. Took me a few tries to work the remote entry door mechanics. Appreciate the simplicity of the experience provided, would stay there again for a solo trip. "

"On Sat night at 1am, someone knocked on our door, proceeded to unlock the electronic lock with a door code and tried multiple times to open the door. Thankfully, Texas law requires a deadbolt and it was secured preventing entry. On Sun morning, the host wasn’t available to assist – only works M-F business hours, unlike any other VRBO I’ve stayed. We left and found another place for the duration of our trip. In addition to limited host hours, this is more of a furnished midterm rental than a typical VRBO. Expedia/VRBO is supposed to provide security to both parties, but this host required much more and VRBO allowed it. ☹ I had to provide more personal details, credit card info, drivers license, etc. than needed to co-sign my child’s lease across town. Also, plan on installing multiple apps and know that communication between VRBO and the apps doesn’t work correctly – we didn’t get check in info until the morning of our arrival due to that glitch. We selected this place to have pool access (forecast: 95 deg). On Thurs, we couldn’t get into the pool and contacted the host. On Fri, we were informed (after 2 follow ups) that the pool was closed for the weekend. The alternative offered was to cancel the remainder of our stay. More positively, the host did arrange for an early check in. On Mon morning, the host agreed to refund the 2 remaining nights (not yet received). Inside, the place was clean, comfortable and stocked with essentials and a few snacks."
