"I love the portola! Only place I stay and travel almost monthly down to Monterey. The rooms are always clean, spacious, the beds are very comfy. Partial bay view is a must. Balcony has two chairs nice to enjoy ur coffee on or listen to some wildlife (sea lions). Basically 4 restaurants attached to the hotel, Carmel bakery n coffee inside the hotel. The location is prime! Walk right and head down Alvarado st you got ur breweries and 10-15 restaurants. Go left and you’re on the Monterey pier , 7...

"Check in process was great. The Inn is located in an excellent spot close to everything. Pack a small fan because if it is warm, your room will be warm. It’s very clean, but the bleach smell was overwhelming when we first walked in. The light breakfast is nice and thoughtful. "

"Nice place overall.. the on-property restaurant was amazing. Only big qualms I had were that it was across the street from the beach, not a true beachfront. Doesn’t seem like that big of a deal until you get there and have to essentially to hike down the property from your room to get to the bottom of the property, cross a road and then hike down more to get to the beach. "Property is pet friendly and grounds are perfect to walk through. Updated cabins are really nice and everything was well kept and maintained. Very quiet. "

"This is a very low budget room . The rooms had black mold in the showers, window seals are full of mold. I thought it would be nicer by the pictures but it was not as nice as they make it seem . I also could hear the upstairs persons every step . So don’t plan on resting well. "

"Great option for downtown Carmel. The location is perfect and the hotel is well maintained. Everything about the stay was great. The breakfast each morning was nice and Brophy’s Tavern is a convenient option for a quick bite or drink. The food was delicious. We definitely will be back to the hotel! "

"We had a king harbor view. The view was beautiful. We were on floor 2 and could hear the people above us, but had a sound machine we brought with us so it wasn't too bad. First breakfast the coffee was luke warm, "pastry" was a dry croissant, it was ok. Second day, fruit was much better and coffee was hot. It was hard to get in the hot tub, even later at night. Overall, a good stay. "
