Bugs and Bad Staff

We flew in from India and arrived at the hotel late. No staff at the desk. It took us a while to find security, who woke up the manager dude. He proceeded to ask us for payment for the room., which was already collected by Expedia. It was alot of confusion at 3am, when we just wanted our room after a full day of travel. The room was fine, but it was full of ants, hundreds of them. We spray the room with our own bug spray and I used my shoe to kill them. I was uncomfortable with that amount of insects crawling around, we did not leave our luggage on the floor. The cost of the water was twice the price we payed any where else, the hotel manager explained that it was more money because its a hotel. Overall as a female traveller I was uncomfortable and creeped out by the room and staff. I stay at hostel like accomodations and have never felt so UNwelcomed in my travels. I was so happy to leave there and will never go back.

Awesome place aurrounded by nature.

We had a great time staying at Amaranta, very friendly and smily staff always trying to make us feel welcomed and ready to help. Facilities are always clean, rooms are large and very clean, very comfortable bed, the only thing I would say it wasnt that great is the AC going from 0 to hero but it works! The food at the restaurant was really good. I would highly recommend this place for a relaxed staying.

Beliggende rett ved huletemplene, og god valuta for pengene. Fint og rent basseng + barnebasseng. Air condition og safe på rommet. Helt grei standard, men veldig enkelt (enklere enn hva bildene gir inntrykk av). Enkel, men OK frokost. Treg service i restauranten, men de er hyggelige og prøver å hjelpe til. Akseptabel tuk-tuk-avstand til Sigriya (en halvtime-tre kvarters tid ca)

A really nice stay. The majority of hotel staff were very nice and friendly. Hotel room could do with a refurb; it was a little dated. Good shower system. was a little disappointed that the staff didn't clean the room or give extra bottles of water though.

VERY Relaxing Stay

I LOVED my stay at Amaranta Classic Retreat. The service staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was very well presented and tasted GREAT! The property feels very remote and is a bit out of the town of Dambulla (45 min walk) but the staff can get you a tuk tuk or help you catch the local bus into town for 20 rupees - less than 15¢ and a fun experience). GREAT place to unwind and soak in the pool in-between sojourns to Sigirya, the Dambulla Caves, or Palonnaruwa. I can't wait to go back again!
