"We arrived at the lodge’s main entrance road sign about 6pm, myself and two young daughters after a full day of driving, tired and hungry. The main entrance road was blocked by trees branches clearly arranged in a line across the road. No written sign to redirect traffic or explain. We drove on to see if there was another entrance, there was none. we drove back to the main entrance I got out of the car removed the branches and drove up to the lodge to find the road had been washed away a short distance from the main road and was impassable. We assumed the lodge has been shut. There were two lions meters away from when I got out of the car to remove the branches. We reversed and drove on, after 90 minutes of driving and not finding anywhere to stay we decided to drive back to Seronera Lodge which was at least a couple of hours away because the roads are terrible. On the way past Lobo Lodge I saw the lights at the lodge were on, I drove to the lobo airstrip to see if anyone was there, luckily someone was there, he told us there was a road behind the airstrip that goes to the lodge, No sign anywhere to inform clients of this. Finally we arrived at the Lodge just before 9pm tired and very hungry. The rooms floorboards creaked loudly, the bathrooms are in desperate need of repair. we were asked to pay more money for an extra room, because I had booked one room to share with my children one who is 13 another 16 years old and asked to deposit into the managers private bank account! "This camp has given me mixed feelings, and I will share their st ong points as well as where they lack practicality.
The camp, although seasonal for now, is wonderfully organized, well designed, hint of vintage British explorer era, but good quality furniture and linen. The staff was great, very attentive and sensible with our needs, woke up early to assist us in the time leading to our balloon safari, at 5 AM, and we're flexible with meal hours during our stay, we greatly appreciated everyone! Truly hard working team and a great team leader Parrick!
The part where they lack organization is in the reservation department and communication with guests prior to your arrival. In our case, as self driving guests, we arranged our own permits and paperwork for the park, however the bed allocation number, which is crucial to enter the park, needs to be prepared in advance, and obviously communicated to the guest, for a seamless entry! In this scenario, they never prepared one, never communicated with us and had no means of communication in case of emergency! We paid in excess of $1000/night and were not even able to spend the first night there, as there was no way to reach them and ask for their assistance with the park entrance. The ranger at Klein's gate was upset for the lack of communication and not being able to reach them through anyone. We wasted over 1 hour trying to find other companies that could get us contact information to reach them. Unacceptable! "
