I was overall very satisfied with El Born Guest House. The staff was very service minded, great location and cosy building. Central but quiet and calm. The bathroom was fresh and refurbished.
Easy to check in. We enjoyed the communal area with kitchen items, coffee machine, and complimentary bottles of water and small baked goods. The only downside was the very small shower (my husband is 6'3" and had some trouble), but overall a great stay! Definitely recommend.
The place was centered in the heart of wonderful shopping, museums, and dining. The only drawback was the front door key was tricky so getting in proved to be a challenge at times and the shower was incredibly small and not easy to get in and out of.
El Born was perfectly located adjacent to the gothic quarter and across the street from train and bus stations. The metro and beach were also easily walkable. We would stay here again! Guillermo was super friendly and helpful. We felt welcome and that he would accommodate whatever needs we had. Water pressure was great and got plenty hot. The room was cool and the bed was comfortable.
The room is too small. Way too expensive compared to other hotels in the area. We will not come back.

Disliked: Amenities
The bed is terrible. Luxury hotel prices with what feels like hostel accommodations. Online photos make room look much better than it is. The mattress was rock hard with a skimpy blanket.
Someone threw away the food I had in the fridge.
The check-in times seems very limited, but it worked out good.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, room comfort
Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
Lite men praktisk og rent hotellrom. Balkon var liten men grei for to personer.
The location is great. Taxi to the airport was about 35€ the room itself was small but had what we needed. The shower was extra small but it worked. The people working were very nice and helpful.
The guest house was nice. Different from our usual choice. We were looking for a different experience and we certainly found it. A little more expensive than I expected but overall a very nice stay. Barcelona was beautiful and the experience part of the adventure.
El Born REVIEW:
I paid about $40 more per night for The El Born Guest House due to the rarity of its advertised air conditioning. It is the traditional smaller European size room, on the edge of the historic old section of the city. I went in August with two of my adult daughters. The small wall-mounted air conditioning unit DID NOT WORK all four nights there. Barcelona is hot and muggy in the summer. The nights were insufferably hot for us. Night air just as hot outside as inside. We couldn’t sleep much until it cooled down outside at 4:30am. This made our day touring difficult as we were all tired from lack of sleep.
The on-site manager seemed very sincere in his efforts to fix the air conditioning unit, but to no avail. The manager also said he would try to contact the owners, to see about compensating for suffering through not getting what we paid for. However, he did not secure any discount prior to our departure. If El Born does come through with some recompense, I will note that and offer some words of satisfaction in the face of this suffering.
We did not go to a different hotel because for the first three days while we were out, the manager called my cell to tell me the problem had been fixed.
Strangely, the manager told me that other guests were coming to stay in this sweltering room shortly after our departure. What is he telling them? Why would he want anyone to stay there?
