  • Jagdish Temple is one of the famous temples of Udaipur. Located in the City Palace complex of Udaipur, this temple is made in the Indo-Aryan style of architecture. In 1651, Jagdish temple was built by Maharana Jagat Singh, who ruled Udaipur during 1628-53. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu (Laxmi Narayan), the preserver of the Universe. It is celebrated for being the largest temple in the city of Udaipur. The gateway of this temple can be sited at a distance of 150 meters from the Bara Pol of the City Palace. This three-storied temple is a wonder of architecture that comprises beautifully carved pillars, decorated ceilings, painted walls and lush halls. In those times, 1.5 million rupees were spent to raise this structure. The spire of the main temple is around 79 feet high that undoubtedly dominates the skyline of Udaipur. This shikhar (spire) is festooned with sculptures of dancers, elephants, horsemen and musicians making it truly a sight to behold. As and when you approach the temple, you will be welcomed by two huge stone elephants at the entrance. On the very front of the temple, you would find a stone slab that is imprinted with the inscriptions with reference to Maharaja Jagat Singh. To reach the main shrine, you have to take a marble flight of 32 steps. Here, you will find a brass image of Garuda, a figure of half-man and half-eagle. This huge idol stands as if; it is guarding the doorway of Lord Vishnu.

CON: Property is not near any of the lakes or palaces, very average breakfast spread, not worth more than 10k during seasons. PRO: huge heritage room, quick service, on the road to the Trident Oberoi so it is in a good area with small cafés & restaurants.

Enjoyed staying at Sterling. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The resturant at this hotel provided good choices for food. The rooms were clean and quiet. We were specially impressed with receptionist and the staff. I would definitely stay there again.

It was a pleasure staying at this property, Sterling is a nice resprt with excellent food and service. Breakfast is good and you can choose: Indian, continental, etc. Overall the experience was brilliant and enjoyed or weekend getaway a lot. I will definitely stay there again.

front desk staff Parvez was very helpful. He helped & guided us in choosing local sight seeing spots correctly. Rooms were clean, break fast was included & was good as well. Overall the staff was courteous, we would recommend others to stay here.

We were placed on the 1st floor and it had poor privacy (e.g. we could hear the reception take phone calls in the morning and at night). Rooftop cafe was nice. Staff was friendly.

Room for improvement to make guests feel at home.

In terms of hospitality, no question they are good. Food was good, priced same as US. Overall good everything except hot water problem. I hope they fix it because it was very inconvenient for us. Service should have been better for the price we paid.

The property itself is beautiful with amazing artwork inside. Rooms are huge and the bathroom shower was excellent! The staff were very friendly and welcoming especially Kishore at the reception. We were however disappointed that they did not have a liquor license which is so strange in a tourist hotel! We therefore did not have any meals in the hotel. The TV also did not have any English programs apart from the news. This is not really good enough!

It is a nice place in a secluded garden and the room are spacious and in old style. Breakfast is good and the roof terrace is excellent for the breakfast. What lets the hotel down is - first of all - wi-fi. This is the worst one we have encountered in many, many years. Could not send a photo on WhatsUp, could not do the check-in for a flight. The other problem is that you cannot get any alcohol, not even beer or wine. Last but not least, dinner food was very ordinary but rather pricey.

where to stay in Udaipur

the staff made all the difference. the charming Komal at the front desk and Sulabh in the restaurant The building is in a quiet area a little removed from the old city but accessible. The room I had was a bit expensive considering the amenities in it - simple bed, very basic tea/coffee and bathroom toiletries et.c. the public rooms are a delight.

Not value for money, poor WiFi, bad food. Stayed for 3 nights in peak winters and the property ran out of hot water in the morning on 2/3 days. WiFi never worked. Cheap boutique hotel that is trying to look like a premium stay but failing across all aspects. Would not recommend this to anyone visiting Udaipur.
