If you’re looking for a world-class JW Marriott experience, this may not be the place. Our stay was a mixed experience, with some clear highlights and some notable disappointments. The good: The location is excellent, easy to walk around, convenient access to public transportation, and simple to get an Uber. It’s close to shopping and the Design Plaza, which was a big plus. The breakfast spread is great, with lots of variety and options. I also really enjoyed the gym and pool facilities, and I had a massage at the spa which I highly recommend. The staff, especially the doormen, were friendly and welcoming. The not-so-good: The property feels old and dated, and the rooms clearly show signs of aging. Our headboard had stains, and the shower had brown stains/mold, which was disappointing for a JW Marriott. We arrived at night and received no assistance with our luggage, despite there being two people at reception. We also tried the buffet dinner one evening, which was underwhelming — cold food and no refills. That said, the duty manager Amy handled the situation well and provided good service once we raised these concerns. Overall, the location and amenities are strong, but the hotel would greatly benefit from a major refresh to truly meet JW Marriott standards.

The hotel was very clean and beautiful. The staff was friendly and greeted us everytime we left and arrived at the hotel. We had the breakfast buffet twice. Although it was pricey, the food was delicious and had plenty of options. The dining options around the hotel qere plentiful as well. Our room had a beautiful view of the Dongdaemun Gate.

Flawless from start to finish.

My wife and I stayed here as part of our South Korea trip. Although our 2.5 year old wasn’t with us she would have had a wonderful time if she was. Staff were friendly and smiling; from the first doorman that greeted us, to the reception staff, restaurant staff and gym staff. We felt the staff were especially professional and wouldn’t let us lift a finger. The property is clean, modern and impressive. It is connected to the Dongdaemun metro station which makes getting about very easy. The gym is truly outstanding, as is the swimming pool (with a small toddlers pool full of about 100 rubber ducks). We had an executive room with a wonderful gate view which was large and modern. It had lounge access and we felt the food offerings were of a great quality. When I was booking I couldn’t decide between this and the Westin Josun so I booked both. I’m now at the Westin and wish I could go back to the JW Dongdaemun as the Westin is not in the same league.

When a team works well, this is what you get 10/10. And at this scale, a hotel. The executive suite is the home away from home. There are many staff members to be compliments. Allen and Jessica from the front office are polite and give clear information. The concierge and bell desk team is exceptional, a shout out to David. I stayed for a week and watched the breakfast room team work effortlessly and dedication to details. Attentive Justin, the ever sweet, smiley Daisy and Danny - from the noodle station. One can see they are beyond happy and pride in doing what they do. Last but not least, the housekeeping team. When I departed for the airport, how the team worked hand in hand handling the luggage, the doors, and watching out for the traffic was perfection. Thank you, and Marriot Dongdaemun will be my 1st choice when I visit Korea the next time 🙂
