Bathroom smelt awful, there was quite a lot of noise from outside, beds were uncomfortable but the staff were friendly and helpful and they have a water machine to refill water bottles

London Hotel

The London Hotel is pleasant with friendly staff, close to the centre of the town and its amenities. The shower was excellent and bed comfortable. The rooms were quiet so a good nigt's sleep is assured. It has no lift so if you have mobility problems be aware there are stairs to climb to the rooms.

Extremely old-fashioned, neglected and overpriced

This place hasn’t been touched since the mid 1980s - thick dust and cobwebs everywhere, and the entire property smells like it hasn’t seen fresh air for decades, including the room. I would encourage any tourists to avoid Sandakan in general, as there’s nothing to do, and just base yourself in Sepilok. If you have to stay in Sandakan, only stay here as a last resort.

Cheap but not cheerful

Room smelt awful, the paint was peeling, blanket was worn and dirty, and the blinds were also torn and filthy. On the plus side, the aircon and shower worked.

My room smelled of cigarettes from morning till night, and I couldn't sleep. There were cockroaches in the room and the bed was quite old. The towels were also dirty. I've stayed in many places in Malaysia, but this was the worst hotel I've ever stayed in.

No tenían la habitación preparada…las toallas que nos dieron eran sospechosamente ya usadas, una la tenían colgada en recepción. Subimos a la habitación y las sábanas estaban sucias, olía a moho y el lavabo estaba destartalado. Nos fuimos y tuvimos que buscar otro hotel porque no queríamos dormir allí. Los señores de recepción eran amables pero el hotel no está en buenas condiciones.

Very good location. Just a short walk to the market, Habour Mall, waterfront and the Thousand Steps. Centralized but quiet since the hotel is located right by the foot of a hill with lush vegetations. The hotel is quite old but clean. The mattress was a bit squeaky and not very comfortable as you can feel the metal springs inside. Staff are friendly. Will definitely stay again in future. Highly recommend for low budget travellers.
