"Not worth it. Way over priced! We stayed one night. Staff are very nice. But the place is of a by gone era. It’s old but not in a charming way. Showers in the onsen are cold and you have to wait for many minutes in order for hot water to come out. The rooms and elevators are old. the outdoor hotspring is on the top floor with no facilities (you have to go downstairs first and shower) and no real view to speak of. The location is on the main drag which is nice. But it should be 1/2 the...

"This place is so authentic. It was a true gem of a Japanese experience for our family. We loved everything about it: hospitality, clean rooms, beautiful views, natural spring style onsens… Highly recommend!"

"We stayed in this ryokan for a family trip. The city is unknown to non-Japanese people, but the people at the ryokan were so kind and helpful. Sometimes it was not easy to communicate as their English was not the best, but they tried their best to help. The meals were awesome, and the bath places were great as well. We were totally satisfied and I strongly recommend this place."

"This was the most beautiful Ryokan we’ve ever stayed in. Wonderful hosts, beautiful rooms, amazing food, lovely Onsen and absolutely stunning walks in the hills and mountains around. Thanks to our wonderful hosts!"

"I don’t believe this accommodation justify the cost if you will stay at this property without dinner and breakfast. I was able to reduce the expense for a night to c. $55 by using Expedia credits equal to $30, but if I didn’t have it, I would recommend to stay another one.
Far from the center of Matsumoto
Nothing was around the property
Nothing would be provided to kids, such as amenities, welcoming tea and snacks, basically.
The only nicer point was hot spring with good scene"

"Very clean, attentive staff, and thoughtful touches made this a wonderful stay. We had a private bath, which was delightful! Loved our stay here, sad to leave "

"This very new seeming property was excellent and I'd certainly choose it again for another stay at Besshoonsen. Room was and clean relatively spacious, the three private spas worked well (although the hotel was not full when I stayed). Meals were delicious, dinner and breakfast, and sensible quantities.
If you're thinking of an overnight here a) you should come - it is a lovely old town and b) this place has your back for a bit of onsen magic while you are here."

"The location was perfect, right within the walk to the Zenkoji Temple. Quiet at night, we had a beautiful view from our large traditional room with tatami mats and futons. The breakfast was out of this world, Japanese style with 7-8 small dishes, all of them delicious, and served in a lovely traditional breakfast room. Service was outstanding at desk and at breakfasts. Highly recommend this ryokan!"

"the staff was so sweet and helped us out with all of our needs, even though i was on vacation his kindness made it felt like we were back home. The rooms were small however it was only meant for sleeping and the futons were SO comfortable"

"We loved this hotel. It’s amazingly close to the castle and within walking distance of a delicious Hoto Moto and 711. It’s clean, quiet, we loved the bathroom, and the AC was freezing cold. When we needed help the front desk was amazing and helped with anything we needed. We will be back!"
"⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely Outstanding – One of the Best Hotels We’ve Ever Stayed At!
The Mercure Nagano Resort exceeded every expectation and was easily one of the highlights of our trip to Japan.
The hotel is perfectly situated on the outskirts of the city, making it incredibly easy to access, with plenty of free parking and the convenience of being able to come and go at any time of the day or night. It’s the perfect base for exploring the region while enjoying a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.
The breakfast deserves a special mention—it was, without question, the best hotel breakfast we’ve ever had anywhere in the world. The selection was simply incredible, with an enormous variety of Western favourites alongside authentic Japanese, Chinese, and other Asian dishes. Every morning felt like dining at a premium restaurant, and there was something new to try each day.
For anyone visiting during ski season, the facilities are outstanding. The hotel has dedicated ski and snowboard drying rooms, secure lockers, modern self-service laundry facilities with new washers and dryers, and excellent male and female onsens that were the perfect way to relax after a day on the slopes.
The rooms were spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the staff were warm, welcoming, and always happy to help.
We travel frequently and stay in hotels all over the world, and Mercure Nagano Resort has set a new benchmark. If we could give it more than five stars"
"5 starts breakfast, great location, very respectful staff.
Some improvement would be that the smell of smoking rooms can be smelled in the halls some times on the six floor."
