Stayed two nights a the Hotel Ranga and so glad that my wife and I added the extra day. The restaurant was all that we expected and more and a great place to spend a cold windy night in the South. It’s also only an hour or so from Reykjavik so well worth the drive for the high quality authentic Icelandic cuisine. Rooms are very comfortable and many have access to one of two outdoor hot tubs. Location also very convenient to main attractions.
Incredible staff that sets the tone for your stay immediately upon arrival. Intimate experience with several interesting pieces of art and other interesting items carefully chosen from all over the world. The model for what a small hotel should strive to be. Will definitely be back!
Fabulous food, great opportunity to look at the moon’s surface in the observatory and the hotel will wake you ( if you choose) to view the Northern Lights.
Chalet style hotel but very clean and well maintained.
All staff were friendly and professional - very good service
Excellent restaurant
Only negative is the long drive from the airport -- mainly 2 lane unlit roads which are difficult in the dark
Did not get to see the Northern Lights but the Hotel made sure everything else was perfect. From booking the perfect tours and providing the best meals in there first class restaurant, it was absolutely worth it, the staff was at a different level, they were the best. Definitely would be back, definitely would recommend, definitely worth it.
The most wonderful place we stayed on our Iceland trip. A very unique and magical hotel. The hotel is like a gigantic log cabin, impeccably maintained. The service team at the front desk was so incredibly friendly and helpful. The restaurant was quite good, although prices for food are so high in Iceland you never feel like you're getting comparable value for your money. We stayed in a family suite that was perhaps the most unique and character-full room we've ever enjoyed. This place is a gem.
We were fortunate and they upgraded our room for the 3 night stay. Staff very friendly and accessible. Food was excellent and the facility is top notch.
Lovely one night stay at Hotel Rangá. Easy to get to, lots of parking. Room was nice and clean and comfortable. Whirlpool bath, bath robes, nice toiletries, Nespresso coffee machine. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was good. Lucky enough to see the northern lights around 9pm.
Can’t complain about the hotel but it cost me a fortune for one night! Not sure why it’s priced so highly. Worth doing once but couldn’t afford to stay again.

This is a marvellous hotel. My wife and I spent 4 nights here, and my only regret is that the stay wasn’t longer. It is a very beautiful, restful place, ideally situated on the south coast. It is a very personally run hotel, with excellent staff and great attention to detail. The restaurant had a small selection of dishes, all of which were excellent.
This is a beautiful hotel, very cozy and clean with a modern rustic feel. Though very nice, it's still VERY pricey for what you get. But the options in this area of Iceland are pretty limited, so that's why I decided to splurge (like, really splurge) on this hotel. But it's gorgeous, loved the hot tubs outside with beautiful views. Nice breakfast included.
The hotel itself was lovely, but the noise level you hear from inside the room is outrageous and makes falling asleep difficult and being woken up every morning.
We really enjoyed our stay. Lovely setting with welcoming and friendly staff who were brilliant. Restaurant was exceptional which I highly recommended and breakfast was one of the best! We really enjoyed the hot spring hot tub at sunset!
Pricey but a nice hotel - restaurant is excellent and the hot tubs and in room tubs with water jets were a nice treat. They do an all night Northern Lights wake-up call-very good option over staying up and waiting. The included breakfast had a menu and/or buffet option- so omelette plus the buffet. Good splurge hotel.
Possibly one of the best hotels in Iceland. Had an amazing breakfast and really appreciated late checkout flexibility as we had an excursion that ran over. Staff was great as well. Overall 10 on hospitality
Location is breathtakingly beautiful.
But what made the stay truly extraordinary was the helpful, warm, knowledgeable and efficient staff. Every need met, Every request fulfilled!
Lovely setting, very welcoming staff, service. Unfortunately our room faced the parking lot and light from the parking lot disturbed my sleep. Also there was something wrong with our Tv/remote and it kept going on all night even though we hand never turned it on! Staff was very accommodating and apologetic about this. I still recommend this hotel. Good was exceptional and staff wonderful.
Room was spacious but bathroom was very small and not very smart.
Food in restaurant was okay nothing special. Service was very good and friendly. Prices are in ISK but at check out you are shown a bill in Euros! I asked to see the bills in both currencies and noticed that we had paid full price for our happy hour drinks and we had been charged 500 Euro too much for the room. When this was finally remedied there was no apology just a “well spotted” . I thought this hotel was expensive for what it offered. We booked it in the hope of seeing the Northern lights, unfortunately it rained the whole time we were there.
Would I stay here again? Probably not as there are better alternatives in the middle of nowhere. eg. Torfhus retreat where we had spent a couple of nights earlier on in our trip.
This is a unique and lovely hotel in a remote part of the south of Iceland. The rooms have a cabin-feel and there are outdoor hot tubs. Great for exploring the south coast and being rural enough to give you a good chance of seeing the northern lights. Good breakfast where you can help yourself to the buffet and/or order off the menu (only 3 items though - omelettes, fry-up or porridge). Would have been nice to have scrambled egg as an option or pancakes. Breakfast is served 7-10am and usually there was plenty in the buffet however one morning we went down at 9am and it was quite bare and wasn't being restocked. The food in the restaurant is amazing and well worth the money, we ate there 2/3 nights and went to a viking pug in Hella the other night. There is an observatory so when we saw the northern lights had come out we asked staff how we access it, but were told it was closed for winter. We were disappointed to then be told the following morning that they had opened it afterwards and people had had a great time in there.
