I guess I could have stayed at the Virgin Hotel Nee Orleans. Or at other snazzy places. But staying at the Pontchartrain and its storied past, I felt I was connecting with New Orleans and its history in a deeper way. I especially liked the Silver Whistle cafe, the Bayou Bar and its excellent jazz offerings, the views from the Tin Roof (named after Tennessee Williams’ “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” of course), and the Jack Rose restaurant. I highly recommend!

We enjoyed our stay immensely! Staff were awesome, music in the bar was mind blowing, rooftop bar was fun - but we were shocked by the amount of "TAX" that were added on to our stay - Amenity Fee, State Tax, Convention and Tourism Tax, City Tax, and a Parking Tax on top of the Valet service. It won't deter us from recommending the place, or returning - it was just an unexpected surprise.

Positives: Spacious rooms, with large beds and considerable storage area for clothes, especially compared to typical newer hotels. Breakfast available for a modest fee. Hotel has two bars--one on main floor that offers live music and food; The other on top floor that offers food, drinks, and panoramic city views. Hotel is close to WWII Museum and other attractions. Trolley stop just outside hotel entrance. Negative: Room key made of heavy metal. Heavy to carry around unless you leave it at front desk when going out.

Loved the atmosphere, staff, amenities. We’ve stayed at Marriott’s, Hyatt’s, etc. All the same feel. This is a fun, unique, artistic piece of property. And the staff is fun, professional and very welcoming. I don’t care about a gym or pool. Great restaurant and bar facilities, too. Our room had a great view, was large, funky. Clean.

Overall really great stay. Comfortable beds, clean rooms and a great view of the city! Loved the direct access to the trolley just outside the hotel and also the breakfast at Silver Whistle downstairs was phenomenal - loved The Avenue truffle egg jar. Never made it upstairs to the rooftop because kids aren’t allowed up there but heard it’s really beautiful. One thing that would have been helpful would be larger shampoo/comdutioner/body wash bottles in the room, not really enough to accommodate four people.
