Portola Hotel & Spa at Monterey Bay
10/10 Excellent
"The Portola Hotel and Spa Monterey Bay is a beautiful hotel. And they accomodated our pet with ease, offering a bed, bowls, and cookie upon arrival. Their pet fee was by far the best in the area. Extremely clean rooms with slider doors to a balcony to let the fresh sea air in. They have an elegant bar with a roaring fire which was a welcomed relaxiation spot after a long day. 10/10 recommend."

"This is my go to spot when staying in Monterey. Good price. Although, be aware that there is a bit of traffic noise, occasionally planes & thin walls in the room. But location is convenient, in the middle of everything which makes it nice to get to pg, marina, seaside, etc… My only complaint was my rooms showerhead the pressure was weak and barely any water would come out. But other than that I’ve never had an issue staying at el castell. Would recommend to others looking for a nice convenient affordable option. :)"

"The property was very clean and very aesthetic. I really liked the look and feel and design of the room and rest of the property. Location was excellent too. It’s close to the cannery row and also has a lot of restaurants and cafes just walking distance. The hotel had an extra charge for the car parking which was not disclosed at the time of booking. It will be good to let customers know beforehand that parking is not free."

"The layout of our room could use improvement. I had to turn on the light by the door to see the closet. There was a mirror there but no socket to insert my hair curler. I thought of when I traveled with another woman and need two mirrors. The hallway mirror wouldn't have been useful without a socket and a table to put my makeup bag on as my friend used the bathroom mirror--or my partner was using the toilet. In the bathroom there was no hook to put my damp towel onto as I used the mirror.The refrigerator was lodged in so tight that I bruised my hand opening it. The worst problem is that the TV remote didn't work until a staff member came to the room and found that it wasn't plugged into the back. That took about a half an hour before she came."

"The room is very well cleaned. Front staff and bar tender are very attentive. Breakfast was beyond our expectations. Overall, we had a good two nights stay. For sure, we will be back!"
