"Lovely hosts, room was nice, spacious and good to have a living area rather than just a bed to lay on. Breakfast was incredible, best I have had (I've had a few!)."

"It was one of the most enjoyable stays I have ever had. The staff are exceptional. The room was immaculately clean, and a wonderful breakfast was served. The staff were some of the kindest, friendliest and funniest I have ever encountered. I highly, highly recommend this property."

"Started with a booking issue via Expedia (small double rather than a king-sized bed booked) but resolved directly with the Hosts. Great location, opposite the park and lovely, solid furniture in the room. Parking permits available in the property for a small fee worked well. Just the shower could do with an update. If we visit again, I'd book a room with a bath."

"Well located and the restaurant was really nice and breakfast lovely. Our king suite was located in the loft and was uncomfortably warm. We mentioed to the staff and they brought up an extra air conditioner. This didn’t help much and was far too noisy to sleep with it, so we didn’t sleep well. It definitely needs it’s own dedicated aircon system.
The pool changing area was very tired and in need of some attention."
"The hotel was in a perfect location right across from the wall and with an easy walk into the heart of the old town. The staff were incredibly personable and helpful and were sincere in asking about us. We ate all dinners at The Rise. The food was fabulous."
"It is what it is. An old building and old rooms but they are trying their best. Reception staff were really helpful.
Breakfast was ok. Eggs great, bacon ok but god knows how sausages are cooked without any browning on the skin.
The main areas are very grand and theres a good feel to the place. Location is great.
Seagulls are quite horrendous on sills of rooms so take earplugs or you'll be up literally, up with the birds."
"Nice room, with a refrigerator, but the room facing the river gets the noise from the bars across the river until 3am.
I'll stay here again, but request a room facing the road."
"Beautiful hotel, Good location as next door to the train station. Reception staff were very helpful and had good customer service skills. Restaurant food was good although there were very few staff on and this lessened the looked after feeling. Breakfast was good. Pool was lovely but we went about 4pm and the changing rooms were wet everywhere from use. - we were possibly just unlucky that people before us were not considerate. £22 per 24hr extra to park at the hotel. When you pay £200+ a night I would have liked that included. Would I stay again? No,"
"A nice individual hotel with excellent staff, friendly and informative. Characterful and comfortable room with an excellent shower!! Very conveniently located an easy 30 minute walk into York via the riverbank (past ice-cream boat). 7Kw EV charging at competitive prices and £15 charge for the car park. Nick on reception was very welcoming and the addition of a shared balcony to the room was an added bonus. Definitely a goon choice if you want somewhere with charm and a friendly atmosphere"
