"The Mark Spencer is not what it was. We have stayed here I think four times and the most recent visit likely will be our last. First kudos to the staff for being solicitous and very helpful. However our room was not cleaned well. We found an old soap wrapper in the bathroom, some lost headphones under the bed, and a spent coffee packet in the coffee maker filter basket. We didn't dare use any of the mugs or glasses in the room, some of which were visible dirty. Apparently the booking included a bottle of wine, which no one offered us. We didn't miss it but the principle of the matter is indicative.
The breakfast options were nice to have but would have been better if the advertised fresh fruit had been available. We enjoyed a tasty breakfast sandwich but received it on an English muffin instead of the requested croissant. Not a huge deal but again, indicative of the attention being paid to details. Top notch drip coffee from Peru and a very good espresso helped.
From check in to check out the staff uniformly were helpful and courteous. John greeted us out front upon arrival and when he learned that we were running late he most graciously helped us get our bags to our room, as we had to park across the street due to the garage being full. Easy parking which was nice.
It saddens me to see what was a home-away-from-home fail to meet the standards we used to appreciate at this handsome old hotel."
"Muy buena ubicacion, cerca a todas las lineas del Max, no hay supermercados cerca. Personal amable, habitaciones y baños amplios, modernos y bien decorados."
"My partner and I stayed here during a conference and we had a wonderful stay. The rooms are spacious and we had amazing views from our upper level bedroom. We also learned that we were insulated from surrounding noise when we talked to colleagues who’d stayed at other hotels in the area. The bed was comfy and there was plenty of space to have coffee in the room. The location is amazing, a block from Pioneer Square. The gym is small but had everything I needed for cardio and strength and it was nice to have an indoor pool. The one con was that the shower had low water pressure but this wasn’t a big deal for a few days. The staff also went above and beyond with the manager coming personally to help me with the coffee machine! "
"Check in with Sarah was not the usual for us. She was very deadpan and it seemed like we were interrupting her. She showed no emotion, was very slow, and left us wondering what she was doing in the service industry. Obviously not too happy about her job.
Enjoyed our hot tub in the evening but when we went to the pool in morning there were no towels available. I went to the front desk and they said they would get some to us right away. After swimming for a half hour and a ten minute soak, still NO towels. We dripped all the way up to our room.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Just a couple items that we had not encountered on previous stays. Still our number one choice in Vancouver. "
