Overall, I enjoyed my 2-night stay at this Marriott hotel. The best part is the view from the restaurant overlooking the Zambezi River, which is also the best place to catch the beautiful sunsets. I had dinner at the restaurant, which serves pretty good food. The buffet breakfast that was included in my room rate was also excellent. The restaurant staff is very friendly & accommodating. They even packed a breakfast box for me when I had to leave early in the morning for my transfer to Victoria Falls.
As for my room, it was spacious and clean, and the bed was really comfortable. There was a hot water kettle, coffee, & tea in the room, as well as a small refrigerator with a couple of bottles of water. The only downside is that the wifi didn’t work outside the reception & restaurant area. Since my room was close to the reception area, I was able to connect to wifi but it was too weak, so I still had to go to reception or the dining area if I really needed to get online. Other than that, this hotel was everything I needed for my short but comfortable stay in Katima Mulilo.

Food at restaurant was very good. Room was fine. There was no electricity for an entire day, which was not the hotel's fault. However, since the hotel knew that the electricity would be turned off by the town, it would have been nice to warn the guests so they could take a shower prior to the water being unavailable and charge devices prior to the power being shut off.
In general, the stay was good. The views of the river are lovely and you can sometimes see hippos in the water. The food is good and the rooms are nice. However, due to a thunderstorm we were without power or running water from 12 hours one evening and I thought the response to this was pretty poor. No one from the hotel reached out to try and accommodate the power cut (and no candles/torched provided in the rooms) or even to explain what was happening (there was also. no back up generator). Also received no apology/compensation for having to spend the last evening/morning in the dark with no AC and no showers. .
The place had a rundown feel to it. The connecting sidewalks in poor repair. The food was mediochre. Bathrooms and rooms could stand an upgrade. Lobby was nice.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, room comfort
The staff were very helpful and friendly. Really made the stay worthwhile. Room was clean but needs to be revamped, outdated.
-Lack of staff; one person running the front desk with queue's of guests, phone ringing and other interruptions
-Lack of knowledge about Marriott Rewards Elite program. Followup by hotel management post-stay was extremely slow and demonstrated lack of knowledge, commitment and making things right
-Door handle to room 1 falling apart; required security to assist entering/exiting
-Absolute lack of energy or excitement across the property; from the dim lit restaurant; closed gift shop, frequently unattended bar, No Wi-Fi in the rooms at this property (to the degree it's false advertising that they say it's even offered)
-No drive, no passion, no interest.
The room itself was perfectly adequate; clean - thin sheets, working flat screen TV with minimal channels. Bathroom could use some deep cleaning but the basics were attended to.
I've stayed here three times for business now. Truly need to find an alternative.
It never improves at Protea Hotel by Marriott, Zambezi Lodge.
Vriendelijk personeel erg behulpzaam
mooi uitzicht vanuit appartementen over de Zambezi rivier en evt met nijlpaarden en krokodillen
Kamer is luxe en comfortabel, prima bedden
Eten is goed, ontbijtbuffet zeer uitgebreid en uitstekend
Hotel is of a great location, however the facility is not as advertised. No wifi in room although hotel information states the wifi in room, it is only available at the reception/dining area. However the area was locked out after 10pm. It is not very wise for business stay.
Relax in piscina . . . una vera oasi.
Muy bueno. Las habitaciones dan todas al río con un paisaje muy lindo. Son cómodas y tienen todo lo necesario. La única crítica es que en el cuarto había mosquitos.
Was just an overnight stop so we didn't linger. Hotel did NOT recognize any pre-payment via Hotels.com and made us pay again. Still awaiting Hotels.com response to my earlier notification of this problem. I need an $87 refund for the amount I had to pay directly to the hotel.
The hotel is beautifully located. But we found the administrative staff incapable and breakfast unacceptable. - If you bring your own breakfast and are willing to pay twice, you will be ok (it took over an hour of arguing to get our hotels.com voucher accepted as payment).
