Nothing was too much trouble for any member of staff who all would go out of their way to accommodate any requests. The room was neat and tidy with all the usual facilities for hotels of this type. Also the food was excellent from the fresh and plentiful breakfasts to the home-cooked cuisine on offer in the Oak Bar in the evenings. Parking was plentiful and the location is near to major transport links. The hotel is set within a nice, quiet residential area which was ideal for my needs as I was able to read documentation and write reports in my room. I will definitely stay there again if my work takes me back to the north Birmingham area. An excellent stay and I heartily recommend it!

The hotel served a purpose for an overnight stay. For the price paid the bed was comfy & bathroom facilities good. Walls are thin. Could hear snoring & voices in next room.

The room was acceptable if you are looking for a place to sleep, but that’s about it. The floor was not hoovered as there was fur and excessive hairs on the floor. The couch in the room was stained and did not look too clean either. The receptionist was not too friendly and was staring at me which I found a bit rude…

The staff at The Great Barr Hotel were all so friendly, helpful and efficient. We stayed for a visit to Crufts and could not have been made more welcome with our 2 dogs. The hotel is very clean and well appointed and we were given a nice room (a suite in fact) which had a very comfy bed and good bathroom/shower facilities. Would recommend to anyone and may visit again one day.

Second time visiting the Great Barr, and actually in the same room as I was 2 weeks ago. As nice as last time, but a shame I had someone in the room next door who had their tv really loud. Not the fault of the hotel of course. Will be returning next time I'm in the area.

Having read some reviews I was full of trepidation about my trip, but as a result it exceeded my expectations considerably. My room was a lovely size, with a large bed and also an area with a sofa and a desk, and the bathroom was very decent. Only a shower, which was fine for me, and it was all clean with a good supply of towels. Heating in the room was good with proper radiators and not an air con unit that is hard to get right. I had breakfast included, and at £9 a day, it's an absolute bargain. Plenty of choice from the buffet and restocked frequently. As a result, I've rebooked for a couple of weeks time.

Worst experience ever
Checked into the hotel yesterday and was given the room key. When I was walking through the corridor it smelled of of cigarettes. As I opened my room door, there was an intense sneeze of cigarettes and mould. I reached out to customer services at the website and was told that the hotel are willing to offer another room. I declined it because it had twin beds rather than a double bed. I was then informed by the customer service that the hotel will issue a refund after I talk to the reception. I went upstairs but the receptionist only asked if we're changing rooms or checking out, no other questions. I handed over the key and she said that she'd sort the rest out with the customer services. When I chased the customer services today regarding the refund they said the hotel has refused to issue any refund and are not answering any calls from the customer service. Worst experience ever, terrible customer service and unprofessional and rude staff. Totally regret booking them in.

The staff were very professional and helpful and made our stay very pleasant. Unfortunately our room was tired and in need of some TLC. There was curtain rail hanging off. The bath panel was damaged, the trunking for the tv wiring was hsnging off the wall and the bedroom furniture was scuffed and marked.

We were very Disappointed that that the restaurant was not open at the hotel, it was advertised that there was a restaurant but we only found out when we arrived that the restaurant would not be opened, we had to go out and find a restaurant to get something to eat which cost us to get to a restaurant, it wasn't good for my wife because she had a sore hip
