We booked a stay of several nights at this hotel, knowing it was nice from having stayed there in the past. Neither Expedia nor Holiday Inn Express informed us that the hotel was under major renovation. We couldn't walk in the front door, the lobby was demolished, and the breakfast room had been removed to a makeshift meeting room. Staff members were difficult to find. There was continual hammering and loud sawing. We had to enter the hotel through a side door. All in all, it was a challenging stay, certainly not restful. My main complaint is that no one let us know in advance that the hotel would be like that, so that we could have made an informed decision about staying there. We certainly would not, had we known what it would be like.

This hotel might be a nice hotel one day but currently it should not be taking reservations. Our hotel room had stains on the ceiling, soap dispensers that didn’t work and an overall yuck feel. It is in the middle of a just close it down and finish it remodel and I’m sure when it is done will be nice but as is I would look elsewhere or pray you’re in an already renovated room. Alpine the city was a gem and wouldn’t think twice when staying in Alpine the city again just not this hotel.

My stay at Holiday Inn Express in Alpine, TX was one of the worst stays in my 30+ years of traveling! I arrived at the hotel and realized that the hotel is going through a major construction/ renovation. I was assigned to a room on second floor. There were constructions going on the entire floor except a few rooms so the hallway was full of construction equipment and debris and it was loud from construction equipment. I booked the hotel back in October of 2025. If I had known that the hotel would be doing a major construction, I would have chosen a different hotel in Alpine. I feel that the hotel should have notified me well in advance so I have a choice of keeping the reservation or booking another hotel in the area.

The hotel is under construction, the lobby has no front desk, there’s construction equipment, tools, trash and dust everywhere! All floors are under construction and there is no attempt at dust control. Dust is everywhere! It is in the carpet in the areas that are not under construction, it is on all the surfaces of the temporary breakfast area, tables, chairs, windowsills, dust is in the air when someone walks on the carpet. I can’t express how frustrating it is to have breakfast in a construction site! The contractor obviously doesn’t care and the hotel management isn’t doing anything about it.

Construction everywhere.....NOT posted on site. Staff was friendly and apologetic, but would've never stayed had we known. Toilets/water were out for a day. Had the construction workers garbage in front of our door.

The room was clean but in need of some repair. I understand the hotel is doing a remodel on the first floor but not having access to the elevator should not be allowed. I had a lot of heavy gear I had to carry upstairs to my room, and the workers had all the luggage carriers covered in tile boxes, so they were not useable for the customers. I talked about this to the lady at the front desk who was not helpful or apologetic at all. I have stayed at many Holiday Inn's in the past, all good experiences, this was not a good experience at all.

It was good but I wished you would have informed us it was being remodled, there was no check-in counter 1st floor only rooms they had & my husband has asthma not good for him breathing all that stuff

The hotel was a construction zone, we came driving 6 hours at night with kids, all other hotels were booked out for the weekend and we had to stay as it it in the middle of nowhere . No lobby, dust everywhere, this should be illegal. My dust allergies were killing me and part of the trip was ruined. On third night when finally there was available room at different hotel, we left. I would like to request a refund.

This Holiday Inn is currently undergoing major renovations. All public areas, including the reception, front lobby, breakfast area, meeting rooms, etc., and most hallways are within one active construction zone, torn down to the studs and concrete flooring with construction dust and equipment everywhere. The rooms themselves are functional, dated, but serviceable. Note that they still serve breakfast, the usual Holiday Inn style, in one of the meeting rooms. Not an ideal location, but the food is just fine. They should really update the photos and make sure everybody is aware of the extent of this construction. It is not just one or two rooms that are undergoing a facelift. It is a total tear-down.

I was unable to use my reservation due to conflicting and undisclosed check-in limitations. The booking indicated that the stay was valid from 3:00 PM check-in until 11:00 AM the following day. Based on this, I reasonably understood that if the room was paid for within that time period, I would be permitted to arrive later in the night. Prior to arrival, I contacted the hotel directly to confirm the latest possible check-in time. I spoke with Iliana at approximately 3:06 PM and was informed that I had to arrive no later than 2:00 AM because their system “resets,” and they would refuse check-in after that time. To be clear, I never stated that I would arrive at 3:00 AM. I was referencing the published 3:00 PM start of the stay. If a guest has already paid for the room for that night, an internal system reset should not transfer the burden to the consumer. The room remains paid for within the reserved occupancy window. Because this restriction was not clearly disclosed at booking, I was left without a reasonable or safe option. I was traveling from Houston to Alpine due to a last-minute situation and could not safely drive 8–10 hours overnight in order to meet an unexpected internal cutoff time. When I contacted the hotel, they refused to issue a refund for circumstances outside of my control. While Expedia later provided a credit as a courtesy, this does not change the fact that the property denied accommodation for a paid reservation. I do not recommend selecting them.

No issues with room reservations. Rooms were clean. All around easy as can be. Will always use Expedia if traveling and need a hotel.

The room was in good condition, but the bathroom shower was liking. The hotel is under construction. I had problems with accessing the exercise room the key did not work when I approached the front desk in the am on Wednesday the front clerk seemed to be upset because I was asking for help. Over all the stay was ok. the breakfast was great. but clerks a bit rude.

I wouldn’t say this was Holiday inn fault, more like Expedia not disclosing that this place was being renovated so lobby was none existent. Rooms were ok, place is old hence the renovation, breakfast was no good this time. It would be nice if they just informed people ahead of what to expect. Don’t like showing up to place that looks empty and not in use.
