It's a chilled, hip place near everything - beach(es), eating, shopping - with committed staff, a well-equipped kitchen, comfy beds, and spacious dorms.
I stayed in a budget single room. It's small but beautifully done, clean, with a window to the central courtyard, and a comfy bed.
The shared bathrooms are cleaned at least daily (and checked regularly in case of additional cleaning need).
The kitchen is extremely well equipped for a hostel and there's always a box with free pasta and rice.
Breakfast is complimentary and includes not only cornflakes and bread with jam but also fresh fruit and pancakes. Note, that coffee is not included (but available for about €1,50 at the bar).
Laundry is roughly €3.50 for a large bag (done inhouse).
There are daily events you can sign up for or ignore depending on how you feel. I did the Sunday morning hike, which was exhausting but also stunning.
Staff is always friendly and ready to advise on any question, from where to buy electronics to cute coffee shops to how to catch the bus to eSwatini.
WiFi is good
We had the best stay at Curiosity, the place was so clean, the staff were amazing and there was always something to do. I highly recommend staying here!
For this 2 days the bad way the manager Megan and some of her staff did wasnt good. She was so bad insulting me onnpremises that your prise is too small to pay, why is it then on the web? Thereafter she became ugly and said l am a person livi g on the street wh8ch isnt so, l travel all over the world l sometimes struggle with my visa and has to extend she is so bad she incriminated me so l report her at police she even insulted my businesspartner when he phoned her, its completely not a professional business and the complete setup has a bad vibe all tourists get sick because of the condition 8f thempremises its no use the place get painted and flòorwashed as serious bacteria and viruses infected all tourist, there is proof of it. Then Megan apso make people to pay the staff stole some of my money by me paying cash on extention, and l never saw the 800 l paid the reception just denies and when l questioned Megan had a bad attitude asif nothing happened, the next time l came from Cape Town again l booked online the same receptionist whom stole previous 800 from me called Megan who refused my stay at 12 pm night which l had to go somewhere else, just becaus she said she dont like my face and Megan send onmprevious occations to me threat messages which l showed police and they noted it. She also insulted my businespartner when we were with a person in hospital who was in his deathbed and she insisted me to remove my luggage from their storage. She overcharged many tourist + me.
Not so good, the woman called Megan has been acting with her own personal vendetta, that l thought was her attitude, but not only her attitude her racist way of dealing with people from europe and Afrikaners travel7ng to europe, for us who needed to travel back and forth her excuse was that wr cant leave luggage there and get a storage, for almost all tourists she ripped them off increasing prices on the day of extention and if the europe people came to pay she had a filthy way of handling people and all tourists numbers l have has been complainung about her regarding the bad way she treats them when they booked online or just pitched where bazbus drops them when they never wanted to be there but closer to the ushaka which they never end up to, further more the free breakfast had all tourists infected with bacteria and viruses so that they end up at hospital and doctors for treatment, it is so filthy dirty in their rooms as from the previous backpackers which was Banana backpackers they had the 'leftovers' of the HPVirus and other viruses and bacteria that was inthe building this infected each and every person on the premisess and all persons became ill at yhe time being there at Curiocity or at laterstage due to that infected premises, furthermore the lice is something that realy nevrr gets out of a property whether u spray it or not and it is in that building all tourist carrynit from there on with them, the next thing is the kitchen has no ventilation it is sufficating
Hostel isr sehr alt. Es entspricht keineswegs deb abgebildeten Bildern im Internet. Diese scheikek schon einige Jahre alt zu sein. Personal war sehr freundlich. Unterkunft dreckig und in einem segr renovierungsbedürftigen Zustand.
Over my stay there was great. The staff are friendly and the place is neat. Breakfast is a lovely addition.
I was, however booked into an incorrect room, I'd booked a double, but received a single. It was late, so i didnt worry to change it. There was some sort of mix up with the booking made through Expedia.
Overall, I still recommend staying there, it is vibrant, easily accessible from the airport and centrally located in Durban.
Had a private room, which was very spacious, well-lit and nicely decorated. Common areas are clean and very trendy. Service was great, staff was very friendly and went the extra mile to help with general queries / tips on activities and things to see. Entrance to the hostel was a bit underwhelming. Breakfast and food offering to be improved.
I booked a dorm bed, it had its own charger and light point..very happy..the room was large and airy with a balcony..secure,had our own key...also lockable cupboards under bed if needed. The kitchen was very clean and had lots of nice cutlery and crockery available..the sitting area was nice...they also had a bar and lounge and reading room..shower and toilets clean and plenty of hot water...the only downside is the area,it is a bit seedy .!! Felt alright during the day time but after dark it does not feel safe...
Easy walk to beach area and ShopRite ..

Dommage!
We spend 2 nights at Curiocity and liked it a lot! Staff is very kind and they make sure you feel at home. They help you with whatever you need and let you know what you should do while being in Durban. (They also let you know what not to do and, more important, where not to go). We had a private room which was very spacious and the room was huge! Definitely one of the better rooms we’ve had so far here in SA! Would definitely reccomend it!
Hostel is spacious and nicely decorated. We arrived late in the evening just for one night and unfortunately we discovered (bed?)bugs on the bed and underneath the mattress. Also some small blood stains on the bedding. We were then offered another room where we found the bugs as well.. The staff just told us (without taking a look) it weren't bed bugs but insects that came in because of the rain and that they would take care of it. If it wasn't for the bugs, we would come back here. The dorms were nice and spacious and every bed had its own light and electricity.
O hostel é muito agradável, com um conceito bem diferente e nos deixa realmente confortável. Tamanho do quarto, com varanda inclusive e disposição das camas é um ótimo ponto positivo!
