1. Boulder Garden Hotel

Kalawana

"Boulder Garden Hotel is the most beautifull hotel I have ever been to. It is located in the middle of a forest. Except for the rooms, everything is in the outside: the restaurant is located below a huge boulder, the swimming pool is in the middle of rocks. The personel is very friendly and helpfull. The food is very good and relatively cheap (our dinner was 12 USD for two). The hotel is very small: there are only 5 or 6 rooms. So nearly all of it is there for you only. I recomend it very much. Mansala Safari House

Udawalawa

10/10 Excellent

We had a fantastic stay here. The house & setting are just beautiful, so peaceful & the hosts are so welcoming & friendly. The bed was so comfortable! We had an evening meal here which was home cooked & delicious. We had an early start the following day for a Jeep safari we’d booked through the hosts & we were sent off with a huge packed breakfast. The safari was fabulous too, the guide was so knowledgeable about Udawele Park. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Kotapola

Toted as being one of the most remote hotels in SL the hotel did not disappoint. Fabulous location and well run for such a remote site. You certainly got a sense of the rainforest by the time you got there. Our container was comfortable and the bar and dinning rooms spacious. As vegetarians we were a little bored with curry and rice yet again but it was nice not to have to face another buffet dinner as dinner was served to you. My only qualm was that it took an hour 15 mins to cover the...

Hantara Udawalawa

Udawalawa

10/10 Excellent

This was the most amazing place to stay. First and foremost the staff were the most friendly and helpful you could imagine. The facilities at Hantara were incredible with a pool which was immaculately clean. Our lodge was spacious, characterful and spotlessly clean. The staff arranged a safari for us in Udawalawe National Park which is very close by. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you to everyone at Hantara.

We had a fantastic stay at Lizard Safari Lodge. The rooms are clean and well kept, with a nice big bed, mosquito net and fan. Our room had a balcony which was great to sit out on in the late afternoon. Dinner was delicious on both nights of our stay (as was breakfast) with a good selection of food and very generous portion sizes! Nandu could not have been kinder, taking us on a tour of the village and to a local swimming spot on the afternoon of our arrival, and providing snacks and ice creams....

The Bungalow at Pantiya Estate

Matugama

10/10 Excellent

Natscha and her assistant Ajit run this wonderful small guesthouse. If you are looking for an authentic, local experience then stay here. But, it is not that easy to get to, The road to the bungalow is largely unpaved and steep but, for us, that was all part of the attraction. The surroundings are beautiful - lush green jungle, beautiful rice paddies, local temples etc. But, if you don't have your own vehicle then it is not possible to get out at night. The cuisine is local and very good....
