At the heart of Leicester’s Cultural Quarter is this modern theater, which hosts everything from ballets and concerts to dramas and stand-up comedy shows.

The Curve Theatre is one of Leicester’s premier arts venues. Attend contemporary dance presentations, independent theatre shows and live music performances. Aspiring performers can also take dance and singing classes here.

The Curve Theatre opened in 2008 and was inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.

Admire the theatre’s state-of-the-art building, which was designed by renowned Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly. The façade contains an incredible 495,140 square feet (46,000 square metres) of glass.

Find two auditoriums inside, with a combined audience maximum capacity of around 1,300.

Performers who take to the stage at the theatre include members of the theatre’s own performing arts group as well as travelling companies and world-famous entertainers.

Watch adaptations of Hollywood classics such as Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Be entertained by well-known standup comedians, including Irishman Ed Byrne, and listen to gospel choirs. Examples of other past productions staged here include interpretations of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist, Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre and Roald Dahl’s The Witches.

The theatre is unusual in that there is no designated backstage section. During your visit, look for actors moving between the stage and the dressing rooms, warming up and having lunch in the café.

Classes and workshops are also held regularly at the theatre. Learn to sing with the Curve Gospel Choir or try break-dancing or ballet. Budding musicians can even apply to showcase their individual or group talent on the Foyer Stage.

Situated in Leicester’s Cultural Quarter, the Curve Theatre is less than 10 minutes’ walk from Leicester Railway Station. Drivers can pay to use the large parking lot adjacent to the theatre. Discover other notable attractions such as the King Richard III Visitor Centre and Leicester Cathedral nearby.

The theatre is open Monday to Saturday. Purchase tickets at the box office, online or by telephone. Check the official website for an up-to-date show schedule, information on ticket prices and details of current classes and workshops.
