In the Netherlands we have to charge our guests for two different taxes. One is the tourist tax, which goes directly to the government, and one is the city tax, which goes directly to the Local authority of Amsterdam. The tourist tax should be paid by checking in (when it's not done before arrival). The city tax has to be paid during check-out.
