What you can expect

  • Experience the beauty and power of Mount Merapi on a magical night adventure from Yogyakarta. Travel to the slopes of one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes and enjoy an unforgettable lava viewing experience from the scenic Turgo Hill area.

As the sun disappears and darkness falls, the atmosphere becomes truly spectacular. Watch the glowing lava flow from Mount Merapi while surrounded by cool mountain air, peaceful hills, and stunning panoramic views. On clear nights, you can also see the sparkling lights of Yogyakarta city from above, creating a breathtaking contrast between nature and urban life.

This experience is perfect for adventure lovers, photographers, and travellers looking for something unique beyond the usual city tours. Enjoy the quiet atmosphere of the mountain at night while relaxing with warm tea or coffee and taking incredible photos of Merapi under the stars.

Please note that lava visibility depends on volcanic activity and weather conditions. Even when lava is not clearly visible, the mountain scenery, night atmosphere, and panoramic hill views still offer an amazing experience.

At Turgo Hill, you have to climb 1,743 steps.

We offer different cave options. You can watch the lava at night and visit the caves the next day, or see Mount Merapi’s lava after the cave tour on the same day.
