• Kedung Kayang Waterfall
Kedung Kayang Waterfall is one of the highest waterfalls in Central Java. The waterfall is located at an altitude of 1200 metres above sea level and reaches a height of 40 metres. The charm of its beauty is different compared to waterfall tourist attractions in general with its sky-mountain-river-waterfall viewscape. The name Kedung Kayang is a combination of two words, namely Kedung which means waterfall, and Kayang which means sky. The road to Kedung Kayang Waterfall from Magelang is around 34 kilometres with a travel time of around 1 hour. Suitable tourist activities are trekking, selfie photos, water tourism at waterfalls, pre-wedding and others. Facilities: road access, parking, toilets, food court, viewing post, campground and rest area. Kedung Kayang Waterfall never recedes or decreases in flow, even at the peak of the dry season. It is said that the name Kedung Kayang has been known to residents for generations, originating from the names of three masters or powerful figures in Wonolelo in the past. Namely Empu Stage, Empu Putut, and Empu Khalik. It is said that the masters often met at the location of the waterfall, both above and in the kedung below. According to local belief, the guardians were Kyai Gadung Melati and Nyai Widari Welas Asih. Apart from the water flowing from the river above, in the cracks of the vertical cliffs, a number of springs have also emerged which come out throughout the year and are believed to have mystical properties. Kedung Kayang has its own uniqueness and strangeness, namely that in the month of Suro (Muharram) on Friday nights Kliwon you can often hear the sounds/strains of Javanese Gamelan and on Thursday Wage all the monkeys around Kedung Kayang gather at the top of the waterfall. According to the myth, Dewi Nawang Sih and Dewi Nawang Wulan also often bathe in Kedung Kayang which has the property of making you stay young.
