What you can expect

  • Discover the history, culture, industries, and local character of Canada’s northern capital on a guided three-hour Yellowknife city tour.

After pickup from your Yellowknife accommodation, begin with a photo at the Welcome to Yellowknife sign and hear the storey of the nearby Bristol Freighter and the bush pilots who helped connect Canada’s North.

Continue to the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre, the Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly, and the Yellowknife Visitor Centre. Learn about northern cultures, wildlife, territorial history, and the Northwest Territories’ consensus system of government.

Travel through city centre and along Main Street while your guide points out additional landmarks, public art, Frame Lake, City Hall, and other places of interest along the route. Discover Yellowknife’s diamond-mining storey at the NWT Diamond and Jewellery Centre before continuing to historic Old Town.

Explore Old Town’s waterfront character and finish the sightseeing route at Bush Pilots Monument, where elevated views overlook Yellowknife Bay, Great Slave Lake, Back Bay, and the city skyline.

Interior visits to the heritage centre, Legislative Assembly, Visitor Centre, and Diamond Centre depend on public opening hours and day-of operational availability. When entry is unavailable, your guide will provide an exterior visit and interpretation instead.

The itinerary order may change because of weather, traffic, opening hours, or group pace. After approximately three hours, return to your original pickup location.
