What you can expect

  • Discover many of Rio de Janeiro's most iconic landmarks on a guided walking tour: Municipal Theatre, National Library, Royal Portuguese Reading Room, Santo Antônio Convent, Praça XV, and Confeitaria Colombo.

Start your tour at Cinelândia, formerly nicknamed the “Paris of Rio.” This square's popularity stems from housing the famous Municipal Theatre and other buildings that marked the arrival of the Portuguese Royal Family in Brazil.

Leaving Cinelândia, you will visit the Church of São Francisco da Penitência, belonging to the Convent of Santo Antônio. Voted the second most beautiful church in the city by TripAdvisor and Viagem e Turismo magazine, you will be enchanted by the artistic richness of Brazilian Baroque. Then get tips on famous local shops in Largo Carioca and head to the Real Gabinete Português de Leitura, one of the most beautiful libraries in the world!

Your break to recharge will be at Confeitaria Colombo, a permanent member of all “must-visit cafes” rankings around the world. You can sample one of the traditional Brazilian snacks – such as chicken coxinha – in one of Rio's most prestigious early 20th-century locations. From there, head towards Praça XV. Pass through Beco dos Barbeiros and discover the curiosities of the place. Continue walking to the Igreja Nossa Senhora do Carmo, another unmissable church. Next to it is the famous Praça XV, where Dom João's first residence was established upon arriving in Brazil. Explore the area, passing by Arco do Teles, where Carmen Miranda lived. Upon reaching Rua do Rosário, briefly visit Casa Tucum, a cultural centre with exhibitions and handicrafts created by different indigenous peoples of Brazil. To finish, choose our complete tour with a delicious lunch – full of traditional Brazilian dishes. Or visit other attractions recommended by our guide on your own.
