What you can expect

Troia was once ancient Aece, a Roman city on the Appian-Trajan Way. It had always been hostile to Emperor Frederick II Hohenstaufen and close to the papacy so much so that the Emperor destroyed it in 1229.
This tour will enable you to get to know the historic centre with its magnificent view of the Dauni mountains and its splendid cathedral, one of the best in Puglia, famous for its splendid rose window which was also depicted in the Italian 5,000 lira bill in the 80s.

The tour will take you to visit the heart of the town with a trip to the Church of St. Vincent the Martyr, Basilica of St. Basil and St. Francis, and major palaces - such as the Palace of Prince D'Avalos, Palazzo Varo, and Palazzo Siliceo.

The tour ends with a visit to the cathedral dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Assumption built in the Twelfth Century and in the Apulian Romanesque style, upon a church of Byzantine origins.
Certainly the most beautiful part is its rose window composed of 11 stone columns and twenty-two different decorations obtained exclusively with the technique of the fretwork, making the rose appear like laced embroidery.
This is the most beautiful rose window in Puglia. Also worthy of note is the bronze portal with its 2 wonderful dragon-shaped knockers.
