Overview

  • Create your own piece of Japan through hands-on calligraphy, origami, and matcha.

Choose a Japanese kanji character with a meaning that speaks to you, and practice writing it with a Japanese brush pen. Then select a handmade origami piece and combine it with your calligraphy to create a personalised artwork.

Discover the meaning behind Japanese kanji and experience Japanese culture with your own hands.

Finish your artwork with a vermilion seal. Then slow down with a tasting of three different Japanese teas before whisking and enjoying your own bowl of matcha.

No previous experience is required. This relaxed, beginner-friendly experience is an easy and meaningful way to connect with Japanese culture during your time in Tokyo.

If you have any allergies or dietary requirements, please let us know in advance.

Activity itinerary

What word would you like to take home from Japan? Choose a kanji, a Japanese character—with a meaning that speaks to you, and turn it into a personal keepsake of your time in Tokyo. Begin by practising your chosen character with a Japanese brush pen. Then create your artwork, combining your calligraphy with a handmade origami decoration prepared for you. Choose from designs such as a crane, flower, kimono, or samurai helmet, and add a traditional red seal impression for the finishing touch. After creating, settle in for a relaxing tea break. Explore the flavours of three different Japanese teas, then enjoy the simple pleasure of whisking and drinking your own bowl of matcha. You don’t need any experience with calligraphy or making matcha. Whether you come on your own, with a partner, or with friends, enjoy time to create, taste, and connect with Japanese culture. Leave with more than a souvenir: an artwork made personal by you, and a memory of a peaceful, creative moment in Tokyo.
