What you can expect
Welcome to the Tokyo Sumo Festival
Feel the floor tremble beneath the clash of giants. Salt arcs through the air. The crowd holds its breath. This is sumo — raw, thunderous, and right in front of your eyes in Ginza, Tokyo.
Two unforgettable ways to experience Japan's national sport await: enjoy a thrilling live show with food , or join a hands-on training session with a former professional. Suitable for all ages, nationalities, and levels — no prior knowledge needed.
Plan A: Sumo Entertainment Show
Sit steps from the dohyo and watch retired pro wrestlers bring centuries of tradition to life through explosive bouts, lightning footwork, and ceremonial movements. Interactive moments invite you to throw purifying salt, try ceremonial gestures, and learn the meaning behind each ritual.Highlight: Challenge Sumo — a lottery-based chance for five guest to step into the ring and face a real wrestler. Will you stand your ground or be lifted off your feet? Bottomless chanko-nabe included. Plan A is an entertainment show, not an official competition.
Plan B: Asa-Geiko — Authentic Training
A 60-minute workshop guided by a former professional wrestler. Learn signature moves: shiko (stomps), suri-ashi (sliding steps), and butsukari-geiko (collision drills). Pace and intensity are yours — compete like a pro or take it gently. Hear stories no guidebook shares, straight from someone who lived it.Afterwards, wear the kesho-mawashi — the ceremonial, hand-embroidered belt of top-ranked wrestlers — for a once-in-a-lifetime photo.
Important (Plan B)
Not for children under 5, pregnant guests, or those with serious medical conditions. One package per booking; children must be accompanied by a guardian. Why Choose the Tokyo Sumo Festival
Retired professional wrestlers guide the experience
Choose a lively show or hands-on training
Signature Challenge Sumo — face a real wrestler
Wear an authentic kesho-mawashi for unique photos
Welcoming to all ages, nationalities, and experience levelsExperience sumo as it was meant to be felt — only at the Tokyo Sumo Festival.
