Uncover the secrets of Cahuachi as you explore its ancient pyramids. Stroll through towering adobe structures that once served as a sacred centre for the Nazca civilisation. This immersive journey offers valuable insights into the spiritual and cultural significance of Cahuachi in Nazca history.
Itinerary:
Our guide will pick you up from your hotel at the scheduled time and take you southwest of Nasca to the ceremonial temple of Cahuachi. Here, you'll witness a city largely devastated by floods, which is now gradually being restored by archaeologist Giuseppe Orefici.
You’ll see key sites such as the Great Temple, the Great Pyramid, the Step Temple, and the surrounding ruins. Your guide will provide detailed information about this remarkable civilisation, helping you understand the religious practices of the time. Cahuachi comprises ceremonial plazas, stepped temples, and pyramids that were used for sacrifices and offerings. Archaeologists believe that the residents of Cahuachi were responsible for constructing the Nazca lines, as the site is in close proximity to them.
Next, you'll walk through the forest, where the guide will explain the significance of the Huarango tree in that era, before arriving at the Ocongalla aqueduct. This open well features well-preserved stone walls and boulders, with water sourced from melting snow in the Andes, which farmers now use to irrigate their fields.
The visit concludes, and you will return to your hotel.
