Experience São Miguel's most iconic landscapes on a carefully planned 2-day tour that combines spectacular volcanoes, crater lakes, geothermal wonders, waterfalls, coastal viewpoints and authentic Azorean culture. Designed for first-time visitors, this experience lets you explore both the west and east sides of the island with a licensed local guide, without the stress of planning or driving.
Please note: This experience runs over 2 consecutive days. Depending on operational requirements, your tour may begin with either the West or East itinerary.
West Itinerary: Sete Cidades & Lagoa do Fogo - (Day 1 or Day 2)
Discover the famous Sete Cidades Volcano, home to the legendary Blue and Green Lakes. Visit breathtaking viewpoints including Vista do Rei and Cerrado das Freiras before exploring the peaceful village inside the volcanic crater.
Continue along the dramatic west coast with stops at Escalvado Viewpoint, Ponta da Ferraria and the Mosteiros Islets. Visit Santa Bárbara Beach before finishing the day at Lagoa do Fogo and Pico da Barrosa, where one of São Miguel's most beautiful volcanic lakes awaits.
East Itinerary: Furnas Volcano & Ribeira dos Caldeirões - (Day 1 or Day 2)
Travel along the scenic north coast to the Gorreana Tea Plantation, Europe's oldest tea plantation, where you can learn about traditional tea production and enjoy a tasting.
Continue to Ribeira dos Caldeirões Natural Park, famous for its waterfalls, historic watermills and lush vegetation, before arriving in Furnas, São Miguel's geothermal valley.
Here you'll discover steaming fumaroles, hot springs and volcanic landscapes. You may also choose to enjoy the traditional Cozido das Furnas (optional lunch) or relax in the famous Terra Nostra Thermal Pool (optional admission, payable on-site).
Before returning to Ponta Delgada, stop at the beautiful Furnas Lake and pass through Vila Franca do Campo, the island's first capital.
