    At an altitude of over 1,460 metres, in the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, stands Rocca Calascio: the highest fortification in the Apennines, set in a landscape that looks like it came straight out of a film.

    In 2019, National Geographic listed it among the 15 most beautiful castles in the world, praising its spectacular location and charm.
