Discover the beauty and ancient history of the Mexican capital as you travel through its central square, along a glorious boulevard, and climb to the top of a sacred hill to enter Chapultepec Castle. Pay a visit to the Museum of Anthropology, witnessing a wealth of pre-Columbian artefacts.
Get picked up from your hotel or the airport and travel to Zócalo, the city's central square and the ruins of an important Aztec temple—destroyed by the Spanish to build a cathedral, itself the oldest in Latin America. Marvel at incredible frescoes by Diego Rivera, reflecting a deep love and understanding of Mexican heritage.
Walk along Paseo de la Reforma, a wide avenue that cuts through the heart of the city, and admire the many monuments and statues, including the Angel of the Independence. Arrive at Chapultepec Castle, on the hill of the same name, meaning “hill of the grasshoppers” in the original Nahuatl. The hill—sacred to the Aztecs—was desecrated by the Spanish when they built the only royal castle in North America. Admire the views of the city before you tour the interior, which includes many luxurious artefacts representing European decadence.
Finally, visit the National Museum of Anthropology, the country's largest museum. Dedicated to the study of Mexican history, the museum contains many fascinating artefacts and has an emphasis on pre-Columbian cultures including Olmec, Aztec, and Mayan civilisations.
