It was made in 1810 for Mrs. Elizabeth Macquarie, the wife of Governor Lachlan Macquarie – one of the early leaders of New South Wales Mrs. Macquarie loved this area. Back then, there weren’t many buildings around – just trees, sky, and the sea. She would often come here to sit and enjoy the view of the harbour. So, the workers carved this seat into the rock just for her, as a quiet place to relax. Even today, the view from this spot is one of the best in Sydney.
