We will venture southwest of Yucatán to explore one of the most emblematic henequen haciendas in the region, where we will discover the fascinating history and importance of henequen, known as “Green Gold.”
Uxmal: Mysteries and Majesty of Puuc Architecture
Our first stop will be the archaeological zone of Uxmal, “The Thrice Built,” located 80 kilometres from Mérida. An expert guide will lead us through this site, where we will admire the majestic Puuc architecture and its Mayan buildings, which still hold the mysticism of ancient legends. We will visit the Temple of the Magician, the Nunnery Quadrangle, the ball court, the Governor's Palace, and the Great Pyramid. For enthusiasts of Puuc architecture, there is the option to explore the newly opened section of El Palomar.
Hacienda Mucuyché: History, Legends, and a Cenote Adventure
After this immersion in Mayan culture, we will head to Hacienda Mucuyché and its cenotes. Here, we will learn about the history of the haciendas and the relevance of henequen to the Yucatan Peninsula and Mexico. A local guide will take us through the ruins of the hacienda, sharing legends as we enter its cenotes. The first, Carlota, is a semi-open cenote whose name holds a storey that we will discover during the tour. Then, we will swim through a canal surrounded by lush vegetation, which will lead us to the impressive cenote Azul, a cavern that will leave us breathless. Throughout this experience, our certified bilingual guide will accompany us, ensuring an unforgettable visit.
Flavours of Yucatán: Time to Savour Regional Cuisine
To culminate this day, we will enjoy free time to taste the exquisite regional cuisine in the hacienda's restaurant, with flexible hours.
We will begin our return trip to Mérida to end the tour
