Guanlin is not merely an ancient architectural complex and a mausoleum site, but also a vital carrier of the culture of loyalty and righteousness in Chinese civilisation. It has witnessed the cultural elevation of Guan Yu from a historical figure to a folk hero, and ultimately to the revered Martial Saint, thereby becoming a cultural bond that connects the sentiments of Chinese people across the globe. It is a widely held folk belief that paying homage to Guan Gong can bring you financial prosperity and good fortune. You are welcome to offer your respects to him as well.
White Horse Temple was built in 68 AD, the 11th year of the Yongping reign of the Eastern Han Dynasty. As the first official Buddhist temple in China following the introduction of Buddhism, it is widely acclaimed as the oldest Buddhist temple in China, the birthplace of Buddhism in China and the ancestral monastery of Chinese Buddhism.
The construction of the Longmen Grottoes first commenced during the reign of Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty, around 493 AD. The project continued through successive dynasties, including the Eastern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Qi, Sui and Tang dynasties. Stretching approximately one kilometre from north to south, the grottoes presently house 2,345 caves and niches, over 100,000 statues, and more than 2,800 stone inscriptions.
