What you can expect

  • Get out of the city and up into the Dinaric Alps: Lukomir is the highest and most remote village in Bosnia and Herzegovina — right in the Olympic Mountains, overlooking the Rakitnica Canyon, the second deepest canyon in Europe.

After a scenic drive from Sarajevo, you will first reach Umoljani, a mountain village known for its stone houses and legends about dragons. From there, you continue on foot: an easy to moderate hike takes you along a panoramic trail alongside the second deepest canyon in Europe, Rakitnica.

Along the way, your guide will share stories about what it's like to live in one of the most inaccessible and remote areas of Bosnia. And of course, there is always enough time on the hike for breaks to take in the view and take photos!

In Lukomir, a traditional Bosnian lunch awaits you – prepared by locals with locally sourced seasonal ingredients. And nowhere does it taste as good as at 1,500 metres after a strenuous hike ;-)

We take our time on our hike. Small groups of a maximum of 8 hikers guarantee a relaxed pace that allows you to take in the surroundings. If you want to combine nature, history, and a hike that feels like you're with a good friend, then this is the tour for you.
