Embark on a same-day trip from Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La. Travel through some of the highest and most scenic roads in the world. Admire the stunning views of the Stok Kangri range and the sprawling Leh valley. Visit the Diskit Monastery, and ride a camel in the Hunder Sand Dunes.
Depart from Leh early in the morning, around 6:00 AM to 7:00 AM, to make the most of the day. Ensure your vehicle is well-fueled, and carry warm clothes, snacks, water, and any necessary permits (Inner Line Permit).
Begin your journey with a steep ascent on winding roads, passing through picturesque valleys and rugged mountains. Admire the stunning views of the Stok Kangri range and the sprawling Leh valley.
Stop at Khardung La Pass, at an altitude of 5,359 metres (17,582 feet). Spend some time at the pass to take in the breathtaking views, click photos, and enjoy a cup of hot tea at the small café.
Continue to the Nubra Valley. As you enter Nubra, visit the Diskit Monastery, which houses a massive statue of Maitreya Buddha and offers panoramic views of the valley.
Next, head to the Hunder Sand Dunes, a unique attraction in Nubra Valley. These white sand dunes are a striking contrast to the surrounding mountains. Enjoy a camel ride on the Bactrian camels, native to the region.
Enjoy a local Ladakhi meal at one of the restaurants or guesthouses in Hunder or Diskit. After lunch, spend some time exploring the surrounding areas. The Shyok and Nubra rivers provide opportunities for photography and short walks. Visit local villages and friendly with locals.
Start the return journey to Leh by mid-afternoon, around 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Enjoy the changing colours of the mountains as the sun sets during your return journey. Arrive back in Leh by 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
