Experience the authentic countryside of northern Nagano by e-bike on a scenic journey through the rice fields, mountain foothills, traditional villages, temples, and waterways of Iiyama and Kijimadaira.
This 2–3 hour cycling experience takes you away from the usual tourist routes and into the everyday landscapes of rural Japan. Ride through vast rice fields, cross the Chikuma River, climb into the foothills of Kijimadaira, enjoy spectacular views across the Iiyama Valley, and discover historic temples and traditional craftsmanship along the way.
The highlight of the journey is Reisenyama Ryukoji (霊泉山 龍興寺) — the famous Dragon Spring Water Temple and the cultural centrepiece of the route.
Begin your ride in the countryside of Iiyama, one of northern Nagano's most distinctive agricultural landscapes. Quiet roads wind between expansive rice fields, small villages, irrigation channels, and mountain scenery. Depending on the season, see the fields being prepared, bright green rice paddies stretching across the valley, or golden fields approaching harvest.
The landscape is deeply connected to Snow Country Japan. Heavy winter snowfall, abundant water, and fertile farmland have shaped the way people have lived and worked here for generations. With the assistance of an e-bike, comfortably enjoy the countryside while taking on the route's climbs and rolling terrain.
