Morning: Ancient UNESCO Heritage and Thermal Marvels

Your morning begins with a private pickup from your hotel in Hakodate. Board your private vehicle and travel along coastal roads towards the Kayanuma area. Your first stop is the Jomon Culture Exchange Centre, part of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site “Jomon Prehistoric Sites in Northern Japan.” The centre displays over 1,000 historic artefacts, most notably Hokkaido's only official National Treasure: the “Hollow Dogu” (Chuku Dogu), an intricately crafted clay figurine dating back to the Late Jomon period, alongside prehistoric pottery and stone tools.

Next, continue along the coastline to the town of Shikabe to visit Shikabe Geyser Park. Powered by volcanic subterranean heat, this rare natural geyser erupts roughly every 10 to 15 minutes, shooting thermal water up to 15 metres into the sky. Observe this dramatic geothermal display up close and unwind by soaking your feet in the park's outdoor natural hot spring footbath, fed directly by thermal mineral waters from the earth.

Afternoon: Farm-Fresh Delights and Island Trails

In the afternoon, head inland towards the scenic foothills surrounding Mount Komagatake to visit Yamakawa Farm Milk Plant, a beloved local dairy institution. Blessed with cool climates and lush pastures, the farm is famous for its fresh milk, cheese, and velvet-textured soft-serve ice cream produced right on the farm shop.

A short drive brings you to Onuma Quasi-National Park, one of Southern Hokkaido's premier scenic spots. Formed by ancient volcanic eruptions of Mount Komagatake, the park features interconnected lakes, quiet bays, and over 120 small islands connected by arched bridges.
