Next, you’ll visit the Geysir hot spring area. The entire area is on top of a vast, geothermal field dotted with bubbling, multicoloured mud pools, hissing steam vents, hot and cold springs, warm streams, and primitive plants. Geysir is dormant most of the time but its successor, Strokkur, erupts every 10 minutes or so and its white column of boiling water can reach heights of 20-30 metres.

A few minutes’ drive away is the Gullfoss (Golden Falls) Waterfall. Marvel at the white water thundering down a 32-meter drop into an impressive canyon. On a sunny day, you’ll be able to see a rainbow through the drizzle, and in winter, the scene is even more spectacular, as part of Gullfoss freezes over!
