What you can expect

Most Guilin tours stay on the river. This one goes up — then comes back for the night.
You start at Longji Rice Terraces (“Dragon’s Backbone”) — 66 km² of hillside rice paddies carved by Zhuang and Yao hands over 650 years. Then, instead of ending the day early, you return to Guilin just as the Sun and Moon Pagodas light up. Walk the free lakeside promenade, watch gold and silver towers mirror on black water, and — if you wish — add a short night cruise that takes you under bridges and past fishing birds.

Pickup, drop-off, and an English-speaking guide who knows the mountain roads — all included. No jade shops, no rushed stops.

Step one: the Dragon’s Backbone.
Two hours from Guilin, the road climbs into Longsheng County. Terraces spread from 300 to 1,180 metres high — a living sculpture that changes colour with every season. You choose your village:

Ping’an (Zhuang) – graceful, flowing terrace lines. Gentle 1–2 hour loop between “Seven Stars with Moon” and “Nine Dragons and Five Tigers.” Electric shuttle available & excluded (paid local).

Jinkeng (Yao) – vast and dramatic. Ride the cable car up to Golden Buddha Summit for a 360° panorama (cable car available & excluded~55–100 CNY, paid local). Walk down through a Red Yao village.

Step two: minority village life.
In Jinkeng, you can add a 45-min Red Yao long-hair performance (women with world-record length hair). In Ping’an, add a bowl of Zhuang oil tea hand-pounded with ginger and fried rice. Both optional — book on the day with your guide.

Step three: local lunch like a farmer.
Family-run stilt-house restaurant. Try bamboo rice, smoked bacon, wild veggies. Pay directly (50-100 CNY). No hidden markup.

Step four: Twin Pagodas night (included).
Back in Guilin by sunset. Walk Shan Lake’s free promenade. The Sun Pagoda (41m, pure copper, world’s tallest) glows gold. The Moon Pagoda (35m, glazed ceramic) glows silver. An 18m underwater tunnel connects them. You will visit outside from distance with the best free photos: Zhiyin Platform at “blue hour”. Your guide knows the spots.

Step five: optional night cruise (pay on spot).
Want water views? Add Two Rivers and Four Lakes cruise (60–90 min). Pass 22 illuminated bridges, watch the cormorant fishing show, and see the twin pagodas reflected from the boat’s outdoor deck. ~175–230 CNY, paid locally. Your guide handles the booking on the day — no pressure, decide then.

Step six: home.
Drop-off at your Guilin hotel. You’ll have terraces, villages, and glowing pagodas all in one camera roll.

Notice: Notice:
Longji is 5–8°C cooler than Guilin — bring a light jacket.
Cable car/electric shuttle run weather permitting.
Pagoda lights turn on ~7 PM (seasonal). Lakeside walk free.
Optional cruise requires phone reservation; guide helps.
