The trip begins with an early pickup from Diani Beach at 7:30 AM. Head out to Bodo via Shirazi village. The drive to Bodo takes about 40 minutes.
On the way to Funzi we enjoy the green plantation of sugarcane and the factory of the Ramisi sugar company
On arrival, board a motorised canoe waiting to take you on an amazing adventure up the Ramisi River. The river abounds with exceptional birdlife and, who knows, even the occasional crocodile.
At low tide, enjoy a relaxing moment at the stunning Funzi sandbank, the perfect place to lounge, swim in the clear waters, and bathe in the sun. A makeshift shelter will be pitched here for you to enjoy your lunch. The lunch menu mostly consists of seafood specialities such as crabs, grilled fish, and coconut rice. Non-seafood options such as beef and chicken are available, and vegetarian dishes are also served upon request.
Learn about the history and culture of the local community from your guide as you walk around the village on Funzi Island. You will also visit a local school and are encouraged to bring gifts and learning materials to donate to the welcoming schoolchildren.
Be ready to buy unique souvenir from the local market.
About Funzi Island
Funzi has no modern beach resorts with high-end designs, but it has simple properties that reflect the influence of the local community and coastal architecture. It has approximately 1,500 permanent inhabitants from the Shirazi Tribe, most of whom are Muslims and rely on fishing and agriculture.
