Full of legends and stories, the Chenes region is an obligatory route for lovers of adventure and knowledge, for whom it would be impossible to visit Campeche and ignore the vestiges of the Mayan culture that manifest the greatness of its creators.
Marvel at the Chenes-style architecture of the Hochob and Dzibilnocac sites, decorated with stone filigree on their facades that represent supernatural beings that led to the “Maya underworld”; Hochob, “Place of the ears of corn”, where you can also visit several thousand-year-old monuments such as the Palacio del Este, where there is a huge mask that represents the Mayan god Itzamná, or Structures II and III, with decorations of masks, false temples and simulated staircases. The site is located 51 kilometres south of Hopelchén. Continuing along highway 261 that leads to Hopelchén, you will arrive at the community of Iturbide, in the vicinity of which is Dzibilnocac, a little-known archaeological site where you will find the Painted Vault, a set of mounds, platforms, vaulted buildings, and rooms adorned with masks. of the Mayan god of rain, Chaac.
