DAY 1: Cajamarca – Celendín – Leymebamba - Museo del Centro Mallqui – Nuevo Tingo
5:00 a.m. Pickup from accommodation and departure for the town of Leymebamba.
8:00 a.m. Arrival in Celendín, transfer to a local restaurant, breakfast (at the passenger's expense), and onward journey to Leymebamba.
12:00 pm. Arrival in Leymebamba, lunch (at the passenger's expense).
1:00 p.m. Transfer to visit the Centro Mallqui Museum, which was built for the conservation of the mummies and archaeological materials recovered at Lake of the Condors in 1997. This work was carried out by the Centro Mallqui with contributions from the international community, as well as significant contributions from the Institute for Bioarchaeology, the Von Hagen family, and Discovery Channel. The local community contributed with its labour and building materials. The town of Leymebamba owns the museum and is represented by a Civil Association. The administrative and professional work at the museum is carried out by the Mallqui Centre. The museum was inaugurated in June 2000.
3:00 p.m. Continuation of the trip to the town of Nuevo Tingo.
5:00 PM: Arrival at Nuevo Tingo, transport to accommodation, rest. HOTEL
DAY 2: Kuélap Fortress – Cajamarca
6:30 am. Breakfast.
7:30 a.m. Transfer to the cable car terminal for Kuélap.
8:00 a.m. Bus transfer from the boarding station to Platform No. 1; transport by cable car from Platform No. 1 to Platform No. 2.
8:25 a.m. Arrival and visit to the citadel of Kuélap, called La Fortaleza and built on top of a high mountain. It is the most important archaeological site in the Peruvian mountainous jungle. It appears to the visitor as an impregnable place, surrounded by cliffs and precipices on three of its four sides, built in an area of beautiful landscapes that combine the heights of the Andes and the Amazon rainforest, creating an incomparable show. Kuélap consists of two gigantic, overlapping artificial platforms, on which a city was built that covers an area of approximately 450 hectares. In general, and seen from the air, its shape resembles an elongated bird's wing, measuring approximately 584 metres long by 120 metres wide. According to some experts, 25,000,000 cubic metres of material were used in its construction.
11:30 a.m. Descent by cable car from Platform No. 2 to Platform No. 1; transport by bus from Platform 1 to the Boarding Station in the town of Nuevo Tingo. Transfer to a restaurant.
12:00 p.m. Lunch in the village of Nuevo Tingo (at the passenger's expense).
1:00 PM. Return to the city of Cajamarca.
9:00 p.m. Arrival in the city of Cajamarca and transfer to accommodation.
