Just an hour from Thessaloniki, Mount Olympus and the ancient city of Dion combine history, mythology and nature in a single day. You travel with max 4 guests in our own premium car, with an experienced local tour leader, so the day runs at a relaxed pace.
We collect you from your accommodation in the morning. The first stop is Dion's archaeological park, an outdoor museum that was once a whole city at the foot of the mountain of the gods. You will see its different areas, the statues and the theatre with its remarkable acoustics, in a place tied to the stories of the 12 gods and the civilisations that came and went. An officially licensed guide at Dion is available on request, at an extra cost.
Next is a hike through the dense forest of Olympus to the old cave of Agios Dionysios, near Prionia, where the saint lived as a hermit. The path is well kept and passes natural pools along the river, perfect for a dip in summer, and the scenery is especially beautiful in spring and autumn. The hike is easy to moderate and suitable for anyone with average fitness.
The day ends in the village of Litochoro, with free time for lunch by the river and a chance to taste local dishes after a day of exploring. You are back at your accommodation in the late afternoon.
Wear walking shoes and clothes for the weather, and bring water. In summer, bring a swimming costume if you would like a dip in the pools. Solo travellers are welcome. If we have to cancel because of the weather, you get a full refund.
